With winter settling in, many homeowners are starting to think about ways to make their homes warmer, healthier, and more energy efficient.

What many people don't realise is that most main banks now offer low-interest "Good Energy" or sustainable home loan top-ups to help fund eligible upgrades. Depending on the lender, these can sometimes be as low as 0-1% interest for a fixed period.

These loans may be able to help with things like:
☀️ Solar panels
🔥 Heat pumps
🏠 Insulation
🪟 Double glazing
💨 Ventilation systems
🔌 EV chargers

For many households, it's a practical way to improve comfort and bring down long-term running costs - without needing separate higher-interest lending.

Lending criteria vary between banks. If home upgrades are on your radar, send us a message and we'll do the legwork to find the right option for you.

A bit of good news for buyers in our patch this week!

New figures out show Manawatu-Whanganui had the highest share of property price reductions in New Zealand for the first quarter of 2026 - around 12% of listings had their asking price adjusted down.

What does that actually mean if you're thinking about buying? In short: sellers are pricing more realistically, there's a bit more room to negotiate, and buyers locally have more choice than they've had in a while.

Whether you're a first home buyer wondering if now's your moment, or an investor looking for your next opportunity, it's a good time to chat about what's possible.

Inflation for the March quarter came in at 3.1% - slightly higher than expected and above the Reserve Bank's target.
What's driving it? Mostly electricity and petrol prices, which have been pushed up by global oil supply disruptions.
What this means for your mortgage: the Reserve Bank is now less likely to cut rates, and bank economists are forecasting rates could rise before the end of the year. If you've got a mortgage coming up for refix, it's worth getting some advice sooner rather than later.

Did you know your KiwiSaver contribution just went up?

From 1 April, the default KiwiSaver contribution rate increased from 3% to 3.5% - automatically. If you're saving for your first home, that's extra money going into your deposit fund every single pay cycle without you having to do a thing.

On a $70,000 salary, that's roughly an extra $700 a year building up in your KiwiSaver ($350 from you and $350 from your employer).

If you've been wondering whether home ownership is getting closer - it might be closer than you think. We're based right here in Levin and we'd love to help you figure out your next step.

The Reserve Bank kept the OCR on hold this week at 2.25%.

With everything happening globally right now - rising fuel prices, supply chain disruptions, and a bit of uncertainty in the air - the Reserve Bank is currently taking a cautious stance before making any moves.

But the OCR holding steady doesn't mean you should sit still. It's a good time to take a look at your mortgage and make sure you're set up well - whatever happens next.

The Reserve Bank has recently spoken about how the ongoing conflict in the Middle East could affect New Zealand’s economy.

In simple terms, it may lead to:
➡️Slightly higher inflation (cost of living)
➡️Slower economic growth
➡️Some uncertainty around interest rates over time

There’s nothing immediate to react to - but it’s a reminder that mortgage rates aren’t just influenced by what’s happening here in NZ. Global events can still have a flow-on effect.

For most people, this doesn’t mean making big changes - but it is a good time to check that your current setup still works for where you’re at.

If you’ve got a rate coming up, or just want to discuss your options, we're always happy to talk it through.
