Being so passionate about low deposit options for first home buyers, stems from my actual story.

Back in 2010, we brought our first home in Glenfield with a 5% deposit - it wasn’t an option available for everyone, but as we worked at the bank, it was our in.

Saving for even that 5% deposit was hard - it was our Kiwisaver (which we literally only qualified for by weeks) & Shaun being good with some share investments that got us that 5% deposit.

We structured the lending, to smash out 15% & worked hard to get us below 80% borrowing.

Each day I would think - we currently own the toilet & I would really like to own the whole bathroom. Then our bedroom.

Buying this house with a 5% deposit - eventually lead us to being able to buy a rental property, then we sold our first home & brought our dream home, then we sold our dream home 6 months later for the complete dream of moving back home to Northland.

That foot in the door & a smart structure with good advice(plus a bit of help from the Auckland housing market) got us to where we are today.

I speak to clients weekly, who are paying rent & could pay a mortgage - but that extra deposit savings, it’s tough.

Let’s make sure that everyone who wants to own a home, can.
Let’s make sure they get good advice tailored to help them in their situation, not what “most” people need.
Let’s not pull the ladder up behind us.

PS - I just checked the value of our first home - now worth $850k 🤷‍♀️👀

Why do we still have an office when we could do this whole job from a laptop & the comfort of our own homes?

Because you told us, not everyone wants to talk about the biggest financial decisions of their life through a screen.

You told us you want to sit across the table from us.

You told us you wanted somewhere private to ask the questions you haven’t felt comfortable enough to ask before.

You told us you wanted to bring in your insurance policies, spread it all over our table and say, “Right. What the hell does all of this mean?”

And to be fair, most of you are perfectly happy doing the whole thing by phone, email or video call.

We can do both.

Our office isn’t there because we need one to do our jobs.

It’s there because you told us you wanted us to have one.

A real place. With real people. Where you can sit down, have a coffee and figure your s**t out.

Online when you want it. In person when you need it.

That’s why we have an office.

Oh Sky TV…

As we do every weekend, settled down to watch the league - but it was different last night.

We watched the pregame coverage, talking about how Jai Arrows 100th game was bigger than league, bigger than anything else really.

For those of you who don’t follow NRL - Jai was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease forcing immediate retirement in May this year.

The Rugby League world has put everything aside to support Jai & his whanau.

Last night, he took the field for his 100th game - and just as they entered the tunnel & the Roosters came along side Jai & the Rabbitohs to head onto the field, my tears started - and Sky cut to ads.

So we legit, completely missed the whole thing - by the time that was done, we got 30 seconds of Jai walking off.

The actual f**k Sky.

I won’t go into what the ad was, because I believe that the particular company didn’t have an opportunity to make that call.

I know what the reasoning from Sky will be - the previous game ran overtime which pushed their scheduling over.

But you can’t tell me there wasn’t someone in that company who could have made the call to not play the ad, delay the start so we got to see Jai walking out and just engage some common sense about it all.

So - I’ve donated our Sky monthly subscription, to Motor Neurone Disease NZ.

If you want to do the same, here is the link to their website - https://mnd.org.nz/get-involved/donate/

And then figuring out if there is a way we can watch League in NZ without giving that company with such little respect for such a momentous occasion any more money when it clearly has very little respect for the game it makes millions from

Years ago, I read something online (back when you used to be able to mostly trust it but there was still an inkling of maybe it’s not truth) about how someone had survived days trapped in a car living off maccys sauce that they had in their glove box.

I struggle to remember day to day things - but you watch me always stash my extra sweet & sour in my glove box….

Just incase 👀

Anyway - have fun & touch some grass this weekend - it feels like with all the sickness & energy at the moment we all need a reset, the first weekend of Spring is a great time to prioritise balance😍

Hearts drawn for me from each of my people.

I am a bit worried that after stopping the tattoo budget account a few years ago - we might need to start it up again 🤣🙌

I mean, I'm not suggesting you abandon the linen cupboard entirely…

But some spring cleaning jobs probably matter more than colour-coordinating the towels.

Pick one.

Get it sussed.
