Things have been looking a lot more promising lately for many would-be home buyers, with Kainga Ora announcing changes aimed at helping first home buyers into their dream home. Plus, the Reserve Bank revised the loan-to-value ratio restrictions for both owner occupiers and investors, and signalled that last week’s OCR rise of 25 basis points to 5.5% is likely the last increase we’ll see.

Our own Jordan Cameron recently chatted to Stuff about the significant influx of separating couples we’ve seen looking to remortgage or buy the other half of the couple out, while trying to navigate the current property market and minimise their losses.

There’s a range of options for couples in this situation, and the potential outcomes depend on the number of properties a couple has, and what their debt servicing is like. Plus, we’re seeing some couples try and wait out the market, as with current interest rates it can be quite hard to qualify for lending on a single income.
