Our team swapped the office for shovels and wheelbarrows at Colyton School 🚴‍♂️

As winners of Rabobank’s 2025 Good Deeds Competition, Colyton School received funding and a full day of hands-on support.

Alongside The Country, school staff, families and local contractors, our team pitched in to help rebuild the bike track, plant trees and create a new sandpit for students to enjoy.

Rabobank is proud to support Colyton School and work with the local community to make it happen.

From sharemilking to owning and operating a 196-hectare dairy farm with 440 cattle, our latest Succession Story follows James and Melissa Barbour's path to farm ownership.

Shaped by the absence of family financial support, their progress came through careful judgement, knowing when to hold steady and when to take a considered step forward as opportunities emerged.

Now settled in the Waikato, James and Melissa have the stability to plan further ahead, continuing to build on the farm alongside their five sons.

“Farming is our way of life,” James says. “And being able to do it as a family has been one of the best parts of the journey.”

Congratulations to the ten winners of our Good Deeds Community Hub Competition 🎊🧡

The winning community hubs stood out for the lasting impact they’re making in their local rural communities and we're proud to back them with $10,000 in funding to support improvements.

A special shout‑out to the winner of our Good Deeds Competition, Te Miro Settlers Hall, who receives $10,000 and a day’s labour from the teams at Rabobank and The Country 🔨

Over the next 10 years, New Zealand agriculture is expected to undergo its largest ever intergenerational transfer of wealth, as more than half of all farm and orchard owners reach retirement age.

With so much change ahead, succession is one of the most important conversations facing farmers. To help support these conversations, we’ve launched a new Succession Stories series.

These case studies feature our clients and explore the practical realities of farm succession, drawing on real experiences of ownership, governance, long‑term planning and decision‑making.

Each story reflects a client’s own pathway, recognising there is no single model for succession.

Our first Succession Story features Taranaki farmers Terry and Gemma Adams. Link to the full story in the comments below 👇
