Last week the Logic Forest Solutions and Cornerstone Forest Services Teams got their hands dirty at Doneraille Park in Gisborne to begin Stage One of two stages of planting which will see areas of the park replanted in natives.
Following Cyclone Gabrielle, this area suffered extensive damage. The St Leger Bridge was severely impacted, and many of the mature native trees that once lined the Hangaroa River were lost after being smothered by silt. While recovery will take time, every tree planted is a step towards rebuilding a more resilient landscape.
Using native species that naturally belong in this environment, this planting will restore habitat, strengthen biodiversity in the park, and help shape Doneraille Park into an even more beautiful place for future generations to camp, explore, and connect with nature.
With the planting complete, the focus now shifts to giving these young natives the best chance to thrive - starting with keeping the local goats at bay!
