MetService reports Cyclone Vaianu is expected to bring damaging winds, heavy rain, and the potential for coastal inundation. Weather watches or warnings are in place for the entire North Island.
Please take this seriously and prepare now, while there is still time. Make sure your devices are charged and you have a battery-powered radio handy to listen to news updates should you need it.
Key preparations could include:
• Securing outdoor furniture and structures
• Relocating items from flood-prone areas of properties.
• Relocating stock from flood prone areas and bringing pets inside.
• Organise supplies, including food and medications ready in case of any power outages or periods of isolation.
• Having a grab bag and a plan in case evacuations are required.
Please take the time to check in on friends, whānau and neighbours. Call 111 if life is in danger.
