Today we want to share the sad news that Rebecca has peacefully left this world.

For over 40 years, Rebecca lived on the streets and became a familiar face to many in our community. While life was not always kind to her, Rebecca was a valued member of our city.

We extend our thoughts to all who knew Rebecca and to those who showed her kindness and friendship throughout the years.

May Rebecca now find the peace, warmth, and rest she deserves.

🧡 Blanket Donation Appeal 🧡

As the cold weather settles in, many people in our community are struggling to stay warm. Dunedin Bedding Bank is urgently seeking donations of clean blankets to help those facing hardship this winter.

If you have any spare blankets tucked away in a cupboard that are no longer being used, please consider donating them. Every blanket donated could make a real difference to someone sleeping in a cold home or facing difficult circumstances.

We are happy to accept new or gently used blankets that are clean and in good condition.

Together, we can help ensure no one has to face a cold Dunedin winter without warmth and comfort.

Dunedin Bedding Bank still hopes The DCC will talk to those of us on the ground who actually work alongside the homeless to work together on how we can help them going forward.

Dunedin Bedding Bank is excited to announce that, as a result of the recent ODT article featuring us and Sam, a relative has come forward from the North Island to take Sam back home with her.

This is the power of media and social media — helping reunite families. We are so pleased that Sam will not have to spend a cold winter on the Oval.

A huge thank you to everyone who offered extra resources and support for Sam after our last post. We are sorry we were unable to reply to everyone individually, but your kindness and care have meant so much. 💙

Here is a little insight into how our most vulnerable people and homeless live in Dunedin.

Sam is 72 and has been living rough for 6 months. He has made himself a pretty good setup. given the conditions he is living in.

And it sure has not broken his spirit! But he has holes in his tarps from harsh weather conditions and always lives in uncertainty. Around if he is safe, if he will get food, if he will be warm.

If sam was in prison, he would be given 3 meals a day, a roof over his head, showers and toilets, basic hygiene, and medical care.

Why are we not doing more to help those most struggling in our community 😕

Kia ora whānau, it certainly is getting colder down at the oval on a Sunday now! But we are still here every Sunday from 9 to 11, rain, hail or shine. Come join us for a cuppa and a cheese roll one Sunday. If there's anything you need just ask and we will see if we can provide for your needs.
