Your home might be worth more to you than just a place to live. If you’ve owned it for a while, you may have built up equity without even realising it. That could open up options for renovations, an investment, or helping family.

I just had 10 days in Fiji with my husband and my workmates. It was amazing. Just the break we all needed from the grind.

I think I’m lucky.

People who know and love me tell me it’s got nothing to do with luck. That I earned it, that I work hard, that I deserve it, that all my efforts are paying off.

And yeah, I don’t dispute that. I get it. I’ve worked hard. I’ve taken risks, made decisions to halve my income at any expensive stage in life, study late. I’ve been in work environments that weren’t right for me and lived through some toxic situations that almost broke me. I’ve worked long hours, sucked into MLM schemes, hustling on the side to pay bills, sacrificed, missed out.

But I know a lot of people who have done all of the above and still struggle to make ends meet, to put food on the table, to go out for a nice family dinner. Let alone dream of 10 days in Fiji.

When you’re blissfully living in a resort surrounded by poverty, being waited on by people probably earning five dollars an hour for 48 to 50 hours a week, it’s hard not to believe in luck.

Luck that I was instilled with a hard work ethic. Luck that I chose the right industry, or that the industry chose me. Luck that I met the right people at the right time.

So yeah. I earned it. I worked hard. But luck played a pretty solid role in the cards I was dealt.

If hard work was all it took, you’d all be lying on a beach in Fiji. I never want to lose sight of how lucky I am to have this life.
