As has been the case for a number of years now, UCC will not be exhibiting at the Christchurch Motorhome Show from May 15-17. We will instead open our yard for the entire weekend as we hold our own EXPO. We believe by doing this we give our clients the opportunity to look at a larger range of our motorhomes and to test drive these in a more relaxed and informal setting. We will have a large range on display which will include island bed, single bed and bunk bed models. Most of the motorhomes will be ready to drive away. They range in size from 6m to 7.4m and it will be a mixture of new, late model and trade in units.

We are heading to the Hamilton Motorhome & Caravan Show this month!

**SELF-CONTAINMENT**

The new regulations covering motorhome and caravan Self-Containment have been released by the Plumbers, Gas Fitters and Drainlayers Board (PGDB). They outline how the requirements for Self-Containment will work in the future.

The regulations are not prescriptive but provide a broad outline of what is required to meet the Self Containment regulations. The current standard used as the basis for Self-Containment is not referenced so will no longer necessarily be the minimum requirement to gain a Self-Containment Certificate.

In our opinion this is going to create problems with different inspectors interpreting the requirements differently which will make life challenging for the vehicle owner, Inspector A will pass the vehicle then Inspector B will fail the same vehicle next time!

Dethleffs Motorhome 12V Electrical System Upgrade

We have upgraded the standard 12V system on a Dethleffs motorhome from 2 x 95 A/Hr AGM batteries to 3 x 100A/Hr Lithium (LiFePo4) batteries. To ensure the batteries could be recharged quickly the solar panels were upgraded from 200W to 600W with a 50A Victron MPPT charge controller was fitted. The batteries and charge controller have Bluetooth connectivity so you can monitor them with your phone. Artemis batteries were selected because they will fit neatly under the drivers seat where the original batteries are installed in addition to being very reliable.

Changing from AGM to Lithium requires a new battery charger. We installed a Victron Inverter Charger in this installation. The motorhome already had a DC/DC charger which only needed to be set to a Lithium charge profile.

A Victron Smart Shunt was also installed. This also connects to your phone to allow you to monitor all the ins and outs of the battery bank. Using Bluetooth means the interior remains un cluttered, there is no need to install an additional display panel and cables.
