Hi all, haven’t posted for a while, things have ticked along in the insurance claims world without a seismic shift. However, there is now in 3 important areas.
1- OSP (Onsold programme). Feedback is the changes are confusing and may be unfair. Never been a more important time to have a professional expert working for you on this project.

2- a recent interpretation of the insurance relationship demands the insured acts as an insurance expert. I can’t become a dentist overnight, the only way an insured can become all insurance knowledgeable is to engage an insurance expert asap when they have a claim

3- House purchases and ongoing chch earthquake claims by recently found damage.
Had a call this morning, current owner found damage, we have a claim to address.

Make sure if you purchase any home you get written advice from the reinz agent and your lawyer on a DOA (deed of assignment) .

$1M+ actual repair and 2 other large claims settled. The effort and time is worth it for these families and whanau (As we are into year 13). What a full on last few weeks and start to 2024.

What a year, up, down and round about.
I didn't plan for the final rush and required effort (to the detriment of my overall customer service standards) of concluding several insurance claims for my clients, with a total value of over $3m.
Going forward is always good.

My past NZI colleague makes valid points in this article below for those that have friends and whanau that may be affected in some way. Insured's should consider where they can obtain good and experienced insurance advice in these circumstances. As Kenn says every wording and circumstances can be unique.

I see it has been confirmed that this case will be heard in the Supreme Court of NZ. The "on sold" case -

Sometimes you just after stand your ground and look them in the eye. Significant progress on an Edgecumbe flood claim after the insurer "demanded!!!" the insured sign "full and final" documentation. NO insured can be demanded!!! to sign full and final, and an insurer has to fulfill their obligations as set out in the policy (even when they try and avoid it with a novel interpretation of their own wording). No "full and final" signed and insurer is paying up :)

EQC has confirmed reinsurance for the next year at $5B/$1.75B. $5B cover with a $1.75B excess. It's interesting to consider what cost that is to each house? - As there are approx. 1.65m homes in NZ, this reinsurance costs approx. $11 per house each year.
