One of the things I love most about being an adviser is getting to be part of people’s biggest dreams becoming reality.

Buying a home is one of the biggest financial decisions most people will ever make, and I want to be the person who helps make it feel less daunting. Becoming a mortgage adviser brings together the two things that genuinely interest me: working closely with people through pivotal life moments, and the problem-solving side of structuring finance well.

There's something rewarding about sitting down with someone, understanding where they are and where they want to be, and then mapping out a path that actually gets them there. Every client's situation is different, so it requires a keen ear, careful thinking, and real technical know-how to get it right.

My goal as an adviser is simple: clear advice without the jargon, and a process that leaves people feeling informed rather than overwhelmed. I want people to understand the why behind the decisions — so they walk away confident that the choices we made together were the right ones for them.

Team member spotlight. Neil Steeman is one of the insurance advisers in the team. He is passionate about making sure people have the right cover at claim time. Read what he has to say, in his own words below, about why he enjoys being an adviser.

Why I love being an Insurance Adviser?

It actually started with my own experience.

In 2011, I was living just 1km from the Christchurch earthquake epicentre. Going through my own house and contents claims—and later settling two personal property claims and two business claims—gave me a firsthand understanding of how important insurance really is when something goes wrong.

What stood out most was how much the outcome depended on understanding your policy, asking the right questions, presenting the right information, and negotiating effectively.

That experience naturally led me to start helping others, and it’s something I still take seriously today.

I enjoy the research side—digging into policy wordings and comparing options—but more importantly, I value helping people make decisions that will stand the test of time.

Because insurance isn’t just about putting cover in place today—it’s about structuring it properly so it remains affordable and relevant in the future. Otherwise, it’s easy to end up in a position where rising costs push you out of cover at the very time you’re more likely to need it.

For me, it’s not about selling insurance—it’s about making sure people are in the best possible position if they ever need to claim.
