📍 Where is Sam now?
These days, Sam is based in Marlborough, working for Hazlett Livestock.

💪 What did winning mean for his career?
Winning gave Sam the confidence and opportunity to step up and sell at some of the bigger sales, while also providing valuable exposure and helping him continue to grow his business. 📈

🤝 What stands out most about the competition?
For Sam, it’s the people and the atmosphere — being alongside a great bunch of men, all there for the camaraderie as well as the competition. 👏

As we continue to catch up with some of our past winners, this week we hear from 2020 New Zealand Young Auctioneers Competition winner, Andrew Sherratt! 🇳🇿🔨

📍 Where are you now, and what are you doing these days?
Working for Hazlett Livestock throughout Mid Canterbury.

💭 Looking back, how did winning the Young Auctioneers Competition benefit you, both personally and professionally?
Personally, it gave me the confidence to jump in the deep end and learn to swim! Professionally, it’s easy to get stuck in your own bubble, hearing the same auctioneers all the time. Every auctioneer is different, so having the opportunity to learn from other young auctioneers in the industry — while also forming strong working relationships — is definitely a win.

🎤 What do you remember most about competing in the Young Auctioneers Competition?
The nerves! I took a lot away from my first time competing and probably wasn’t as ready as I thought I was. Having a couple of attempts made me more settled, confident and ready.

As we build towards the 2026 New Zealand Young Auctioneers Competition, we’re catching up with some of our past winners to see where their auctioneering journey has taken them! 🇳🇿

This time, we’re featuring our 2023 winner, Henry Miller 👏

📍 Where is Henry now?

Henry is currently working for Hazlett Livestock, based out of Kurow, and is primarily involved in selling prime and store cattle out of Temuka. 🐄🔨

💬 How did winning the competition help?

Winning the New Zealand Young Auctioneers Competition gave Henry greater belief in himself and the confidence to back himself as an auctioneer.

It also provided a boost professionally, with the achievement helping build confidence in his abilities and what he was trying to achieve in the industry.

🤝 What does he remember most about competing?

Henry started competing at a young age and says one of the biggest highlights was the people he met along the way.

The camaraderie between competitors, along with the social and professional connections made through the competition, has been a real highlight — with many of those connections still continuing today.

🏆 The New Zealand Young Auctioneers Competition is about much more than winning a title. It’s about building confidence, developing your skills, creating connections and helping shape the next generation of auctioneers.
