Client feedback really means to world to us, we are proud to help people get on track with their property goals... 🄰

"We had a great experience working with Rohit Sachdeva from Better Choice Home Loans for both purchasing an investment property and refinancing our home mortgage.

Rohit was extremely knowledgeable and genuinely worked in our best interest at every stage. He took the time to understand our financial goals, clearly explained all available options, and recommended lending structures that were best suited to our long-term plans, not just the easiest or quickest option.

He guided us smoothly through refinancing our existing home loan as well as securing finance for the investment property, with clear and timely communication throughout. His responsiveness, attention to detail, and proactive approach made the entire process stress-free and efficient.

We felt confident knowing Rohit was always advocating for us and ensuring we got the best possible outcome. Highly recommend Rohit and the team at Better Choice Home Loans to anyone looking for a trustworthy and professional mortgage broker."

Mortgage approvals aren’t just about income anymore.

Banks are looking closely at:
• spending habits
• existing debt
• lifestyle costs
• financial behaviour

Small changes now can make a big difference later.

The Canterbury property market feels different this year, and buyers are noticing.

We’re seeing a major shift in buyer behaviour lately.

Instead of panic-buying or rushing to secure ā€œanythingā€, people are becoming:
• more strategic
• more informed
• more strategic with repayments
• more focused on lifestyle and long-term affordability

And honestly?
That’s probably healthier for the NZ property market overall.

Current interest rates, insurance costs and cost of living expenses have changed how people manage their finances and think about home ownership.

The buyers doing well right now aren’t necessarily the ones with the biggest budgets.
They’re the ones with the clearest plan and dedicated discipline.

If you’re thinking about buying property in 2026, preparation matters.

One of the biggest mistakes we see...

People waiting too long to get advice because they think they need everything perfectly sorted first.

You don’t need to have all the answers before reaching out. And you don't need all your ducks in a row to start planning for your future.

That’s what we’re here for.

Should You Fix Your Mortgage for 1 or 2 Years?

It’s one of the most common questions people ask when their mortgage is coming up for refixing:
Should I fix for one year or two or even 3 or 5?

The honest answer is that there isn’t a single ā€œrightā€ option. It usually depends on what’s happening in the interest rate environment and what’s going on in your own life.

Fixing for 1 year can offer more flexibility. If rates drop further, you may be able to refix sooner at a lower rate. This option suits people who think rates might ease or who prefer not to lock in for too long.

Fixing for 2 years offers more certainty. Your repayments stay the same for longer, which can make budgeting easier and remove some of the worry about rates moving up again in the short term.

Some homeowners also choose to split their mortgage, fixing part for one year and part for two. This spreads the risk and gives a balance between flexibility and certainty.

The key thing to remember is that interest rates are only one part of the decision. Your income, future plans, comfort with risk, and overall budget all matter just as much.

Don’t Panic - the markets need time to settle. With the current tensions between the US and Iran in the headlines, it’s understandable you may be wondering what it might mean for interest rates and mortgages.

Global events can cause short-term turbulence in markets. Oil prices jumped earlier in the week and financial markets reacted quickly, but they’ve already started moving around again as investors reassess the situation.

The important thing to remember is this: no one knows yet how this will play out.

Big global events often create short-term volatility, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to make rushed financial decisions.

If your mortgage is coming up for refixing, the best approach is usually to:
• Stay calm and avoid reacting to headlines
• Look at your own financial situation and plans
• Get professional advice before making any changes

Interest rates move for many reasons, and what matters most is choosing a structure that works for your budget and peace of mind.

Sometimes the best financial decision is simply not to panic. We're to help you.
