📢 OCR UPDATE | 2 SEPTEMBER 2026
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand has today increased the Official Cash Rate (OCR) by 0.25%, taking it from 2.50% to 2.75%. 📈
🏦 What’s behind the decision?
• Annual inflation rose to 4.1% in the June 2026 quarter, largely driven by higher fuel prices following conflict in the Middle East.
• The RBNZ expects inflation to return to the 1–3% target range during 2027, eventually returning to the 2% midpoint.
• New Zealand’s economic recovery is showing signs of resuming, with businesses reporting stronger activity.
• The RBNZ has indicated that further OCR increases may be required, depending on inflation and economic conditions.
🏡 What could this mean for homeowners and borrowers?
An OCR increase can put upward pressure on mortgage interest rates, particularly floating and shorter-term rates. If your home loan is coming up for refixing, you’re considering buying, or you simply want to review your current mortgage structure, now is a good time to understand your options.
