Not a bad office for the day ☕☀️

Beautiful day here in Cambridge and a good excuse to step away from the desk for a coffee.

One of the things I love about working locally is being able to help people in the same community we live, work and raise our families in.

Whether it’s sorting out insurance, reviewing what you already have, or simply having a chat about whether your cover still fits — sometimes the best conversations start over a coffee.

And Cambridge certainly turned the weather on today! ☀️☕

🌴 Bula from Fiji!

There's nothing quite like a few days in Fiji to recharge. Escaping the New Zealand winter for some ☀️ , fresh air, and a chance to reset has been just what I needed.

That said, looking after my clients doesn't stop just because I'm on holiday.

This week I've had three insurance claims approved, helping provide some welcome news and financial support when it mattered most.

One of the things I love about what I do is that I can still be available for my clients while taking time to reset and come back refreshed.

Today's office isn't too bad... 🌊☀️

Work-life balance is important, but so is being there for the people who trust you when they need you most.

Vinaka vakalevu, Fiji – what an incredible place to recharge.

A couple of months ago, I had the honour of being asked to MC the wedding of some great friends.

To be honest... my first reaction was, "Are you sure you've got the right guy?" 😅

I didn't know many of their friends, there was a bit of an age gap, and public speaking has never been something that comes naturally to me. Did I try to get out of it? Yep. Did self-doubt creep in? Absolutely.

But I said yes.

Then came the preparation. Sleepless nights. Random ideas popping into my head at all hours. Notes on my phone. Rewriting the running sheet. Thinking of stories, jokes, and those little moments that would make the day personal. And yes... I even used AI to help tidy up my speech (it's an amazing tool when you use it the right way!).

When the day arrived, I was 100% nervous. But once I got started, I realised something.

Preparation beats panic.

It actually reminded me a lot of what I do every day as an insurance adviser.

No two people or families are the same. Every meeting takes preparation. Every recommendation should be personalised. I use the tools available to me, simplify the complicated, and try to make what can be a serious conversation relaxed, engaging, and easy to understand.

The wedding taught me that saying "yes" to something outside your comfort zone can be incredibly rewarding. Growth doesn't happen when everything feels easy. It happens when you challenge yourself.

A huge thank you to the happy couple for trusting me with such an important role. It was a privilege to be part of your special day🥂.

And to everyone else... if you've been putting something off because you're worried you're not good enough, maybe this is your sign to back yourself. You might surprise yourself.

Here's a couple of pics from the day with my beautiful better half ❤️ and some of the old work crew... a bunch of absolute legends! We might be getting older, but judging by these photos, we definitely haven't grown up! 😂🍻

And yes... I'm still happier talking insurance than standing in front of 100 wedding guests! 😅

Celebrating 15 Incredible Years of Jumpflex Trampolines🥂🎉

On Friday night, Karlene Karlene Bhai More Real Estate and I had the privilege of attending the Jumpflex 15-Year Celebration Gala. What an incredible evening celebrating not only an amazing business, but also the people behind it.

We were fortunate enough to be there around 10 years ago when Jumpflex opened its headquarters, so it was pretty special to reflect on just how far the business has come.

One of the highlights of the evening was hearing Stephen, Sovann and others share the journey behind Jumpflex. Like so many successful businesses, the path wasn't always easy. There were sacrifices, long hours, financial uncertainty, tough decisions and plenty of moments where giving up would have been the easier option. Their story was a great reminder that success isn't built overnight. It's built through resilience, determination and backing yourself when others may not see the vision.

Today, Jumpflex has grown into a globally recognised brand, and that's an incredible achievement that the whole team should be proud of.

On a personal note, it's been a privilege to know Stephen and Sovann __miss_lay__ over the years and to watch not only the business grow but also our families grow and the friendship we've shared along the way.

Thank you both for the invitation and your wonderful hospitality. It was an unforgettable evening celebrating a truly remarkable milestone.

Congratulations on 15 amazing years! Wishing you and the entire Jumpflex team continued success as you take the business to even greater heights over the years ahead. 🍾

I attended the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce NZ Long Lunch last Friday in support of the incredible work being done by Kids in Need Waikato.

Hearing firsthand from Linda Roil about the challenges faced by some of our young people in the Waikato was both eye-opening and deeply moving. The support and opportunities this organisation provides make a real difference in the lives of local children and families.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in putting together such a fantastic event, and a special mention to camilleguzzwell for her fantastic MCing 🎤 and helping make the day such a success.

I was lucky enough to grab a photo with Camille 😉, along with my lovely wife Karlene Bhai, Councillor Roger Gordon, and his wife Jo Gordon.

Wishing Kids in Need Waikato all the very best as they continue their important work in our community.❤️

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Ruakura Rugby Football Club Gala Dinner & Club Launch.

What an incredible evening hearing stories and insights from 30 years of Gallagher Chiefs history from some outstanding speakers, including Brad Meurant (the Chiefs' first coach), Ian Foster, Errol Brain and Eric Rush.

What really stood out was the vision behind Ruakura RFC. More than just a rugby club, it has been created to keep former Chiefs players, coaches, staff, administrators and supporters connected, while creating opportunities to give back to the game and support grassroots rugby throughout the region.

It was inspiring to be in a room filled with so many people who have contributed to the success of Chiefs rugby over the past three decades and who remain passionate about giving back to the game.

It was also great to see Sam Cane formally recognised as Club Patron and Liam Messam as Club Captain.

A huge thank you to and from for the invitation and hospitality. It was a truly memorable evening.

Standing here in my final days before turning 50… reflecting on life 😅

Most people don’t put insurance in place expecting something to go wrong.

They do it because life is going well. The home, the family, the lifestyle they’ve worked hard for and they want to help protect it if life throws a curveball.

If it’s something you’ve been meaning to sort, reach out.

I’ll do the hard work, explain it in plain English, and help you put the right cover in place for your situation.

Real story from a recent client review 👇

Called a Tradie client back in January to book in a review.

Me: “How’s things?”
Client: “Not great… hurt my back in September. Been off work on ACC. Had to hire someone to replace me. Money’s getting tight.”

I asked one simple question:
“Why didn’t you call me? You’ve got Income Protection for this.”

He thought ACC was his only option.

Fast forward ⏩
We met, completed the claim, gathered GP reports, ACC info, rehab details… and pushed it through the insurer (including backdating the claim).

Result so far: nearly $39,000 paid out. With more to come…

After it all went through, he said:
“Thanks bro for being in my corner” (As the claim was a bit tricky)

That right there is exactly why I do what I do.

It also opened up a bigger conversation. Making sure his partner understands their financial position and is involved moving forward.

👉 This stuff isn’t just “insurance”. It’s real life when things don’t go to plan.

If you’ve got cover and aren’t sure how it actually works… or if you don’t have any at all, it’s worth a conversation.

Busy few weeks lately, review meetings, new client meetings, and supporting claims across Trauma, Income Protection, and medical.

Took a moment this morning with a ☕️ to reflect. Very proud of the work, but even more proud to support clients when it matters most.

Also managed to sneak in 5 minutes last week to watch a 🐎 I’ve got a share with some good mates win 🙌.

If it’s been a while since you’ve reviewed your cover, feel free to reach out 📞 . Happy to help!

Great to attend the linkfinancialgroupnz Professional Development Day yesterday and spend time connecting with fellow advisers and industry professionals.

It was a valuable opportunity to catch up with a range of insurance providers including AIA, Asteron Life, Chubb, Fidelity Life, and Partners Life, while also hearing updates and insights from across the industry.

We also had an excellent session from NickHakes from Financial Advice New Zealand, along with specialists covering cyber security and compliance, which are becoming increasingly important areas for our profession and the clients we support.

Days like this are a great reminder of how important ongoing professional development is. The chance to learn, share experiences, and stay up to date with industry changes ultimately helps us provide better advice and outcomes for our clients.

Always good to step away from the desk for a day of learning and reconnecting with the wider adviser community.
