I often chat with people about their KiwiSaver and find many don’t know the fund they’re in. Your choice of KiwiSaver fund can make a big difference to your retirement!

Let's break it down: Imagine you earn $60,000 annually throughout your career. The difference between conservative and growth funds could be a jaw-dropping $133,000 at age 65!

Choosing the right fund is vital and it all starts with these three questions to identify your ideal fund type:

How long do you plan to invest?
What's your comfort level with risk?
What's your ultimate goal?

Drop me a message for a no-obligation review of your plans to see if your KiwiSaver fund is right for you.

I meet many people who are self-employed and often they don’t know if they qualify for the Government’s contribution to their KiwiSaver.

If you’re self-employed or not working and contribute the minimum $1042.86 each year (which is only as little as $20.06 a week) you’ll be eligible to get the full $521.43 from the Government.

Albert Einstein once called compound interest the "eighth wonder of the world. Those who get it, earn it; those who don't, end up paying for it.”

For your KiwiSaver contributions, you can choose 3%, 5%, or 8%. Most go with 3%, but I often tell people, if you can, consider 8%.

Why? Compound interest can add thousands to your retirement savings!

Plus, KiwiSaver lets you change your contribution rate every three months. So, if you find that the 8% is a bit tight on the budget, no worries! You can always adjust back to a more manageable rate and increase it again later.

Drop me a message if you’d like to chat more about KiwiSaver and what’s best for you.

One of the most rewarding parts about being a financial adviser is helping clients when they need it the most, at claim time! It's a pleasure to be able to assist clients in securing financial assistance during what is often a difficult time.

I recently received some awesome feedback from a client who I helped through a claim. They greatly appreciated the financial assistance they received which allowed them a break from full-time work to focus on their health both physically and emotionally. Allowing them time to heal alongside their family.

The following is a part of the message they shared with me... "We appreciate you all, thank you so much for your Time, Mahi and Aroha! As we say in our Samoan culture with respect “Fa’afetai, Fa’afetai, Fa’afetai Tele Lava”."

Why I do what I do….

It’s truly difficult when I learn someone I’ve helped has experienced a loss in their family.

Recently, a client’s young son died in a tragic accident. The family was struggling to pay for the funeral and seeking support from as many friends and families as possible. Understandably, it wasn’t something they had their minds on during this painful time but I recalled that the insurance policy we set together included cover at a substantial amount for dependents. With this policy payout, the family was able to comfortably plan their son’s funeral and say their farewells how they wanted.

For me, I’d prefer to work with families to remove financial burdens early on, than see them desperately borrow money whilst mourning, in the hopes to bury their loved ones.

There are very few moments in a career when you can feel grief for others and fulfillment at the same time- this is just one of the many reasons why I do what I do, to protect my clients and their families.

The unforeseen is always hard to imagine, let alone plan for.

But over my 10 years of helping people protect themselves and their families, it's safe to say that everyone shares the importance of securing their future.
