"There are three standards for selecting a job: the three values of beauty, benefit and good. Everyone's ideal is to get a job they like (beauty), that is materially rewarding (benefit), and where you can contribute to society (good). The real world, however, is not as accommodating a place as you may think. Those who find a job that meets their ideal from the outset are doubtless few and far between. More often than not, people have to work at a job they never expected to have to do. Without running away from a disagreeable job, you should continue to work hard while praying to the Gohonzon. By continuing in this way, in the end you will definitely find yourself in a position that you like, that is profitable, and, moreover, that creates great good for society. Not only that, when you later look back on this period of struggle, you will see that none of your hard work was wasted, that your past efforts have all become precious assets. You will then understand that everything you have been through had meaning."... Josei Toda

"Experiencing hardships allows us to develop ourselves as human beings. All of the efforts we make for kosen-rufu ultimately enrich our lives. When things aren’t going the way you hope or when you feel that what you’re attempting to achieve is impossible—such times are perfect opportunities for you to deepen your faith. The people and issues you have to deal with that are causing you problems actually contribute to making you a better and stronger person.
The greater the difficulties my mentor, Josei Toda, encountered, the more calmly he would face them. He said: “If you feel stuck, rouse the great power of faith and the great power of practice to make a breakthrough. This is our way of ‘casting off the transient and revealing the true.’”... "When we awaken to our mission as Bodhisattvas of the Earth, incredible strength wells forth from within; all obstacles we encounter become obstacles we have voluntarily chosen to take on so that we can help lead others to enlightenment. And by overcoming those obstacles, we fulfil our Bodhisattva vow to help others become happy. Obstacles exist so that we can achieve our mission. The Daishonin teaches us to fundamentally transform our attitude towards adversity - from a self pitting, 'Why me?' to a proud and confident, 'Yes, me!'"... Daisaku Ikeda

"Mr Toda stressed the importance of overcoming each difficulty we face: 'Each time we surmount a mountain of tribulation, solidify within us a life state of Buddhahood that nothing can destroy.' Challenging each problem as it comes is the crucial point. We don't wait for our faith to be deep enough to do so. It is through tackling difficulties that we can polish our lives and forge indestructible, diamond like faith."... Daisaku Ikeda

"When we practice gongyo and chant daimoku before the Gohonzon, the good and evil capacities of our lives begin to function as the exalted form of fundamental existence. Lives that are full of the pain of Hell, lives that are in the state of Hunger, lives warped by the state of Anger - such lives too begin to move in the direction of creating their own personal happiness and value. Lives being pulled toward misfortune and unhappiness are redirected and pulled in the opposite direction, toward good, when they make the Mystic Law their base."...Daisaku Ikeda

Happy March 16th everyone :)
"March 16, Kosen-rufu Day. The spirit of this day lies not in magnificent ceremonies or high-sounding words. It lies in being victorious. That is the most crucial thing in all endeavors. In life and in kosen-rufu, we either win or lose. I would like you to be absolute victors in both. No matter what excuses we try to make, giving in to defeat brings misery and loses us the respect of others. I hope each of you without exception will adorn your life with indestructible triumph."... "Everything in life has meaning; faith enables us to give significance to everything that happens. That's what the Daishonin implies when he says: 'Myo means to revive' (WND-1, 149). Transforming our karma starts with transforming our inner resolve. Ultimately, changing our inner resolve comes down to awakening to our mission for kosen-rufu and dedicating ourselves to that noble cause."... Daisaku Ikeda NHR vol 19 Treasure tower

"You won’t find your mission by standing still. Please challenge yourselves in something, it doesn’t matter what. Then, by your making consistent efforts, the direction you should take will open up before you quite naturally. It’s important, therefore, to have the courage to ask yourselves what you should be doing now, at this very moment. The key, in other words, is to climb the mountain before you. As you ascend its slopes, you will develop your “muscles,” increasing your strength and endurance. Such training will enable you to challenge still higher mountains. It is vital that you continue making such efforts. Chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo will enable you to bring forth the life force necessary to succeed. Chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and climb the mountain in front of you. When you reach the summit, wide new horizons will stretch out before you. Little by little, you will understand your own mission."... "Buddhist practice takes place in the real world, in society. Nichiren writes: 'The true path lies in the affairs of the world' (WND-1, 1126) and 'A person of wisdom is not one who practices Buddhism apart from worldly affairs' (WND-1, 1121). We practice Nichiren Buddhism so that we can develop and improve ourselves, and carry out our human revolution in our workplaces, in our families and in our communities. We do so in order to create the greatest value where we are right now. Nichiren Buddhism is not about escaping to some other time or some imagined ideal realm. Doing so does not accord with the teaching of the Mystic Law; it is the shallow thinking of the provisional pre-Lotus Sutra teachings. It is not reality."... Daisaku Ikeda

"Human life is never free from suffering. It is suffering that makes us human. A person's true greatness lies in challenging and overcoming life's hardships; doing so represents a triumph of humanism. The source of that triumph is joy. The more we are aware of our mission, the brighter the flames of joy that burn in our hearts. As we brave the fierce storms of life, the light of joy will illuminate both ourselves and the world around us with a rich golden hue."... Daisaku Ikeda NHR vol 5 "Joy"

"Happiness is something that we must each achieve for ourselves and experience in our own lives. But at the same time, one’s own happiness to the exclusion of others is not true happiness. Just being content with one’s own welfare with no concern for others is selfish. By the same token, brushing aside one’s own happiness and caring only about the happiness of others is not sufficient either. True happiness is a condition when both we ourselves and others are happy."... Daisaku Ikeda
