Over the last couple of weeks there had been strong speculation from ANZ’s economist that the OCR was going to rise (and possibly even rise twice!). So it was nice not to see that happen!

Some better inflation news for NZ today (finally!).
Although it was still a high number (7.2%) it came in lower than the Reserve Bank was predicting (7.5%).
USA and Europe have been seeing a decrease in their inflation rates lately. So hopefully this is the start of a trend for NZ too!

Figures from Stats NZ show that the overall rate of inflation stayed the same in the December quarter and domestically generated inflation, at 6.6% was also unchanged - contrary to expectations that it would rise

It wasn't just the size of the OCR increase yesterday. The tone suggests rates will keep going up next year. There's also a good chance the country falls into recession next year - due largely to these higher rates.

It’s good news if you’re a home owner (again). From my observations, house prices have risen around 5-10% since winter. Houses are selling quicker – and there’s often multiple interested parties competing for houses now.
