Has your car been affected by wet weather or flooding? Here are our top NZI Car insurance tips to keep safe:

- If your car isn’t drivable, or if water has entered your vehicle, please don’t drive or move it. Water-damaged vehicles can be dangerous because they tend to lose function suddenly, and air bags can deploy and battery-damaged EVs can catch fire without warning. Instead, let your broker know immediately.
- We’ll arrange a tow so you won’t have to drive your vehicle in for assessment. Once it’s been assessed, wait for the all-clear from your assessor before driving again.
- If your car is going to be towed, remember to remove any personal items from the vehicle.
- Make sure your vehicle is locked securely with no keys left inside – our tow team will get in touch to pick them up instead.
- If your personal items were damaged inside your vehicle, feel free to throw away any soft items or spoiled food, but remember to photograph and catalogue them first. Contact your broker to lodge a claim for any items that were damaged inside your vehicle.
- If you rely on your car for medical reasons for yourself or your family, get in touch with your broker and we’ll discuss next steps with them.

If you experience damage from the weather, please contact your broker to help manage your claim. Our dedicated claims team will work closely with your broker to support you. Stay safe.

Picture for a moment, a thriving business, a bustling restaurant, or a cozy hotel brought to a standstill by a fire that started not in the kitchen, but in the laundry room.

The culprit? Spontaneous combustion of oily fabric. It sounds unlikely, but it’s a risk that’s more common, and more easily preventable, than most people realise.

Spontaneous Combustion is a risk most commonly associated to laundromats and drycleaners, but when businesses are doing laundry in-house they open themselves to this risk.

NZI has developed a practical risk management guide for in-house laundry. Designed to empower businesses, whether you’re running a beauty salon, a motel, or a restaurant to help prevent losses before they happen.

You can find the laundry risk management guide and many business risk resources here - https://www.nzi.co.nz/business-cover/risk-solutions
