It is just the way the system is engineered.

Robert Kiyosaki on Mutual Funds: called Managed Funds in NZ Sept 2026

From his book Rich Dads Prophecy…why the biggest stock market crash is still coming.

With the promotion of defined contributions for retirement through 401K plans, the US government, and by similar means other governments throughout the world, required millions of people to invest without first requiring them to become investors. As noninvestors entered the market, most were simply told that on average the stock market goes up.

With that assumption the boom in mutual funds was on.

The truth is that all markets move up, down and sideways.

A real world investor would not invest in an asset that only did well in one direction, or invest in a program that did not allow you to exit when prudent to.

But that is just what the 401k did. It pushed people into assets that they had no control over, only did well in one market, and they could not exit without some sort of penalty. That is like handcuffing a swimmer and throwing him in to the deep end of the pool.

Edit....that's the way it works everywhere so don't rely on it for 100% of your retirement.

RETIREMENT PLANNING EXPLAINED Sept 2026


In the distant past retirement planning was dominated by what was called Defined Benefit programs. This meant the company guaranteed a % of a retiree’s average salary over the 5 years prior to retirement.


This was great in theory until the potential liabilities on the Employer companies became so high that these schemes had to be withdrawn.


The solution?


Defined contribution schemes.


A fixed % of salary from the employer and employee.


This program brings its own issues.


How much will I have at retirement and what will its purchasing power be when I get to age 65?

Both are unknown.


Sure you can estimate an end result by making some assumptions but there is still no guarantee.


Your end result is not now in your hands but is indeed in everyone else’s including government policies, central banks interest rate settings, inflation, central bank money printing, fund manager’s fees that apply regardless of the level of your account balance and market collapses.


It is much like a lottery.


Given these issues above why would you rely 100% on the fiat system supporting you satisfactorily in retirement. A retirement that could last 20 years on average.
