Private credit has become one of the fastest-growing asset classes globally. Yet, many investors are still getting to grips with how these funds work and what differentiates one strategy from another.

As the market continues to evolve, understanding the fundamentals becomes increasingly important.

What sits beneath the headline returns? How are loans structured? What protections are in place? And what should investors look for when assessing risk?

In our latest article, we explore key considerations for anyone seeking to better understand real estate private credit funds, including the roles of security, borrower quality, loan structure, and portfolio construction.

Whether you're new to the asset class or looking to deepen your understanding, it's a useful starting point for navigating an increasingly important segment of the investment market.

Today, we announced that Oyster has entered into an unconditional agreement to acquire Dress Smart Christchurch, in a 50/50 joint venture with an entity associated with London-based William Pears Group. This is a high-quality, fully occupied asset in a high-growth region that we know very well, having managed the centre for nearly three decades.

We see long-term opportunity in Christchurch, and in well-positioned retail assets demonstrating resilience across market conditions. This acquisition reflects our view that securing quality assets at the right point in the cycle creates enduring value for investors.

Commercial property is entering 2026 in a far more stable environment than recent years - but it’s not a simple one.

We spoke with Chris Dibble MRICS from JLL New Zealand to get his perspective on the commercial property outlook for 2026, including:
· where the most compelling opportunities are emerging
· the key challenges the sector will need to navigate
· what investors should stay focused on through 2026

We always say that taking the long view in commercial property is essential.

This is the story of patience and smart strategy — how one investor held a building inside a property fund for 18 years and came out on top.

This week, Oyster welcomed our new intern, Kai Kingon, to the team.

The internship is part of our goal to empower the next generation by creating practical, equitable pathways into the property industry.

Through our partnership with the University of Auckland, we're helping talented individuals, like Kai, take their first steps in the sector.

Not only does he get to work alongside some of the best in the business, but we've also given him a seat with a great view 😊

The Oyster Mo-vement is back for Movember 2025! 🥸🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️

After a strong debut last year, the mighty Oyster team is once again taking on Movember — moustaches, movement and all — to raise funds and awareness for men’s health.

This year’s lineup:

🧔 Ryan Janes – bravely growing a statement moustache while clocking up 60km.

🏃‍♀️ Julia Baker – smashing out an impressive 160km of movement (and probably making the rest of us look bad).

🧔‍♂️ Jono Carr – growing a beard, ditching the v**e, and moving 60km… because why make it easy?

We’ve set a team fundraising target of $1,000 — all for a great cause supporting mental health, su***de prevention, and men's cancer research.

If you’d like to support the Mo-vement, donations (and moral support) are both greatly appreciated! 💪

Dress Smart is where it all started for Oyster - 30 years ago.

Our involvement with this landmark retail outlet has taken many forms over the past 30 years. From the initial development of a completely new kind of retail precinct to leasing and managing the centre for its owners, we have proudly evolved Dress Smart into 13,102sqm of space with high-quality brands.
