They had their own land from ancestor in a village where they used to crop rice, corn; millet sugar can for the own and cattle consumption. Way of earning was the selling of can sugar far in the market that had been cultivated in the some part of land. Earning this was not enough for the 11 members even to survive. In order to fulfill the privation of poor 11 member Panthi Family Resham Raj Panthi
, oldest brother, started to do some business like Primary school, sweets shop, chicken meet shop, cloth shop in the market. None of the business favored the Panthi family in this hard time. They ultimately came to run a (SME) small dairy business in 1989 by taking a shutter in rent. With the initial investment of Rs.150000, it was Panthi ice cream cottage industry to process the milk into ice cream and yoghurt for the first time in Pokhara by private entrepreneur. It was also very hard to pay the rent of the shutter taken for the initial two years of establishment. By the effort of sisters and brothers Panthi ice cream started to sprout in dairy sector slowly. There was a small type ice cream freezer and a cream separator which made possible to process ice cream and milk standardization. It was very hard to sell milk and milk products as most family used to produce milk in their own. Particularly, the X-army the restaurants were the main consumer of the dairy products. Moreover, the common people were even unknown about ice cream consumption. The government owned dairy was another dairy which used to supply pasteurized milk and yoghurt but not other ice cream. As the time passed, Panthi ice cream started to gain the popularity due to the quality dairy products and its affordability. Along with dairy products, Panthi family started to run a bakery as well under the same roof. Manufacturing of cakes, bread, accompanied the ice cream and refreshing Lassi. It was the only one place where people can meet by consuming dairy and bakery products in cheap price. With the demand increased, we started to increase the capacity of ice cream freezer and oven. Particularly, ice cream became the synonymous to Panthi. It is our pleasure to mention that we were the exemplary to those who wanted to do something. Many people started to run similar type of enterprise in Pokhara and other cities with similar type of product. Even some started to put the name similar to us. A Japanese Honda motorbike was the first vehicle which was bought in second hand. The Honda made possible to sell ice cream to the retailers in the valley. In 2004 we installed a continuous HTST system for milk pasteurization with 1000 liter/hr capacity.
