THE HISTORY!

Narayanhiti Palace Musuem

Narayanhiti Palace Museum is a former royal palace in Kathmandu that served as the residence of Nepal’s Shah kings from the late 19th century until the monarchy was abolished in 2008. Originally built after the royal residence moved from Hanuman Dhoka, the present palace was redesigned in the 1960s under King Mahendra by architect Benjamin Polk after earthquake damage affected earlier structures. The palace gained worldwide attention following the tragic 2001 royal massacre, in which King Birendra and several royal family members were killed inside the complex. After Nepal became a republic in 2008, the palace was converted into a museum, allowing visitors to explore royal halls, ceremonial rooms, and exhibits that reflect Nepal’s political transformation from monarchy to democracy.

Here's A Daily Monday Fact!!

Pashupatinath Temple is home to one of the world’s oldest continuously worshipped shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, with origins dating back more than 1,500 years?

A fascinating tradition there is that only four main priests, called Bhatta priests, are allowed to touch the central Shiva lingam inside the sanctum — and historically, these priests were brought from South India following a custom believed to have been established by the philosopher-saint Adi Shankaracharya.

THE HISTORY

The Pashupatinath Temple is one of the oldest and most sacred Hindu temples dedicated to Shiva, worshipped here as “Pashupati,” meaning Lord of All Living Beings. Located on the banks of the Bagmati River in Kathmandu, it is a major pilgrimage center for Hindus from Nepal and India and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Ancient Origins

The exact origin of the temple is uncertain, but historians believe worship at the site dates back at least to the 5th century CE. Some legends claim the shrine existed much earlier.

One famous legend says that Shiva and Parvati once took the form of deer and lived secretly in the forests around Kathmandu. The gods later discovered them, and during the struggle one of Shiva’s horns broke off and became the sacred lingam worshipped at Pashupatinath.
