Nepal Share Market: Revised Capital Gain Tax Rates

The Capital Gain Tax (CGT) rates applicable to Resident Natural Person on sale of listed shares have been reduced by 50%.

1. 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱: 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝟯𝟲𝟱 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀
Previous CGT: 7.5% → Revised CGT: 3.75%
2. 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱: 𝟯𝟲𝟱 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀
Previous CGT: 10% → Revised CGT: 5%

Are you a Resident Natural Person of Nepal earning foreign currency by providing services to clients or online platforms registered outside Nepal?
If you provide services to foreign clients such as Software or Electronic Services or Consulting Services or earn through Social Media Audio Visual Contents, it is important to understand the applicable tax provisions in Nepal.

Tax Rate:
Under Section 95 Ka (6 Kha), (6 Ga) and (6 Gha) of the Income Tax Act, such income is subject to a 5% tax rate, which is treated as final withholding tax under the stated provisions.

Such tax is to be deducted by the concerned Bank or Financial Institution or Money Transfer at the time of receipt of payment by the Resident Natural Person and deposited to tax authorities in accordance with the law.

How Much Annual Income Tax Does a Proprietorship Firm Need to Pay?

If you are operating a Proprietorship Firm, do you know how much Annual Income Tax do you need to pay?

For businesses with;

• Annual turnover up to NPR 30 lakh &

• Taxable income up to NPR 3 lakh

The applicable annual Income Tax (Fixed Presumptive Tax) as per Location of Business shall be;

• Metropolitan/Sub-Metropolitan City: NPR 7,500

• Municipality: NPR 4,000

• Rural Municipality: NPR 2,500

If you operate Proprietorship business;

• Timely file your D-01 Income Tax Return,

• Pay the applicable Fixed Presumptive Tax

To stay compliant and avoid unnecessary penalties.
