Before he was Slim Shady, he was just a kid from Detroit with a pen and a dream.
"Infinite" was released long before the bleach-blonde hair and the controversy.
Infinite was recorded at the Bass Brothers' studio, and dropped on November 12, 1996. At the time, Eminem was a 24-year-old father trying to make it in the local scene. The Album was heavily influenced by New York legends like Nas and AZ.
Believe it or not, the album was a commercial flop. Marshall reportedly sold only 500 to 1,000 copies out of the trunk of his car. Local critics mocked him, telling him he didn't have the voice for hip-hop and should stick to rock and roll.
But here’s the thing, that rejection is exactly what gave us the Slim Shady persona. The frustration from the Infinite era pushed Eminem to stop playing it safe and start being unapologetically himself.
