New Annex opened at the Norwegian Seamen’s Church in London’s Rotherhite in the presence of their Majesties the King and Queen of Norway.

The Seamen's Church supports not only the maritime community but also the wider Norwegian community in and around London.

Bjørnar Andresen, Paul Grehan and Ada Engdahl represented Gard at the church service and the opening ceremony.

The bedrooms available to rent in the new annex have each been named after a corporate sponsor and feature a poster with information about the sponsor.

Looking forward to Marine Insurance Nordics on 18 November in Oslo!

Sigvald Fossum, SVP and Head of Analytics at Gard, will open the event with a keynote on "Preventing Marine Insurance Losses - At the Heart of Sustainability", where he will highlight how safety culture, data-driven insights, and collaboration can protect clients and the oceans we rely on.

Right after the keynote, Lene-Camilla Nordlie, VP Norway & Sweden and MD at Gard, will join a panel discussion on "Where Are the Nordics on the Global Marine Insurance Map?" The panel will explore regional dynamics, the Nordic Plan, and what’s ahead for the industry.

Neil M., Claims Executive at Gard, will also moderate the panel discussion on “Alternative Fuels – Will They Scale and Deliver on Time?” The panel will dive into the most likely decarbonisation models by 2030 and what shipowners should consider to reduce risks and unlock opportunities.

Building the future of marine insurance at Gard’s IMI course

Recently Gard completed 3 days of learning, networking, and inspiration at the Introduction to Marine Insurance (IMI) course, held in Arendal, Norway.

The course is designed to build a strong foundation in marine insurance for both new colleagues and external guests. 60 participants, including 26 newly hired Gard employees, gained practical knowledge and strategic insights from experienced professionals in the industry.

🔹 Day 1 focused on underwriting, featuring an interactive workshop where teams worked together to solve real-world underwriting challenges.
🔹 Day 2 was dedicated to claims, with EVP and CFO in Gard, Torunn Biller White, providing a compelling overview of the global risk picture in shipping, followed by an introduction to Claims by EVP, CUO and CCO in Gard, Christen Guddal. The day concluded with a real-life case scenario that was very well received.
🔹 Day 3 explored specialty insurance, with sessions covering energy offshore, E&P, renewables, and builders risk.

Social activities were also an important part of the experience. For early risers, morning yoga, runs, walks, and ocean swimming were offered and enthusiastically attended.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this IMI course a success. We look forward to seeing the impact our participants will have in the world of marine insurance.
