• Neurologische Functie •

Als ik naar je paard kijk, kijk ik naar het contact tussen de ene tand en de andere tand. Raken ze elkaar aan? En als ze elkaar raken, hoeveel raken ze elkaar eigenlijk?

Dit klinkt misschien niet belangrijk, maar wat als ik je vertel dat elke tand een neurologische functie heeft?

Elke tand is verbonden met een cranial nerve (zenuwen in het hoofd), en die zenuwen geven signalen door aan de hersenen, waarna de hersenen signalen doorgeven aan de rest van het lichaam. Dus, als er tanden zijn die elkaar niet raken, kan er een zenuw zijn die niet de juiste hoeveelheid trillingen krijgt terwijl je paard zijn tanden over elkaar heen beweegt.

Wat ik heel vaak hoor is “Mijn paard zijn tanden zijn prima want hij is nog dik genoeg!”. Maar in werkelijkheid zullen paarden altijd een manier vinden om te overleven, ze zullen altijd ergens anders compenseren om te kunnen eten en in leven te blijven, dat is gewoon hun instinct. Maar dat betekent dus niet dat hun neurologische functie in orde is.

Today is World Day for Health and Safety at Work.

The aim is to promote the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally and raise awareness of the size of the problem and how a safety and health culture can help reduce the number of work-related deaths and injuries.

Did you know, according to the International Labour Organisation, every day, 6,300 people die as a result of occupational accidents or work-related diseases? That's more than 2.3 million deaths per year!

Legionella in hotels and resorts are avoidable with more effective water management programs. The CDC claim 90% of outbreaks are preventable and caused by ineffective water management.

So, 90% of hospitality outbreaks could be avoided if the industry applied the same high standards to their water management programs as they surely do to the service experience they give to guests.

HC Info has compiled a round-up of Legionnaires' disease outbreaks in 2022.

It is well-reported the cases are underdiagnosed. The CDC estimate, based on an undertaken study, that the true number of Legionnaires’ disease cases could be up to 2.7 times higher than those reported.

Another figure reported repeatedly is the Case Fatality Rate (CFR) - the community-acquired CFR is thought to be 10%. Looking at the 2022 figures in the graphic the overall CFR is 11% but 2 outbreaks saw staggeringly high death rates:

Argentina - 27%
Latvia - 18%

Legionella is here to stay so we urge everyone to take it seriously and find it quickly. And the best way to do that is use the most sensitive and fastest test on the market...surely!
