B&R Beurs is for both inexperienced and experienced investors, Dutch and international students! B&R Beurs is the student investment society of Erasmus University Rotterdam. We are recognized as an education-complementary society by the university. The mission of the society is to help its members learn about investing. We shape this purpose by different means such as the B&R Academy, where new me
mbers are taught about the financial world by veteran members of the society and guest lecturers. Then, this knowledge is broadened by a number of readings, workshops, classes, guest speakers and company in-house days. Furthermore, every year the society organizes an investment competition with real money. Investing takes place on a group level, with groups having between seven and twenty students. Each member can choose an investment group. Throughout the year you will invest jointly a sum consisting of participations ranging from 200 to 400 euros per member. This is the core activity of B&R Beurs, and parallel to this we have a range of fun activities including 2-weekly social drinks, a poker tournament, karting, beer and wine tasting, paintball tournament, etc. B&R Beurs has a variety of members. From near professional investors to people who have a basic interest for investing, Dutch and internationals with more than 25 nationalities. Most of our members study economics, econometrics, finance, or business administration. There is plenty for each to do. We have a variety of activities and most members enjoy sharing ideas and experiences with each other. When you have an interest in investing or the financial world in general, B&R Beurs is the right place for you. We do have a range of fun activities, but we are not a substitute for a student fraternity. Some members then, take part in both. If you like partying, drinks, gala, winter sports holidays, there is enough for you to do. If you don’t like hazing or forced participation, you’re at the right place as well, since B&R Beurs does neither. When you become a member of B&R Beurs the year will be as follows. A few introductory drinks take place before an introduction week-end where members can meet and enjoy an amazing time. This happens in September. Most of the investment groups are formed directly at the introduction week-end. Later, two group formation drinks take place, before starting investing money. Old members help new members integrating within the society and understanding the basics of investing. After this, the B&R Academy official starts. The academy starts with basic principles of investing, mainly for new members, before becoming more technical with topics such as option strategies and advanced turbos. From this moment, the fun activities start and continue for the entire academic year. Social drinks are held every two weeks, and investment groups meet usually between once a week or once every two weeks. To sum up, B&R Beurs offers students a unique way to get in touch with investing. No other study association or course at university offers the experience we provide.
