Our THRUST program and their SWIM consortium partners show off the world's first hydrogen powered water taxi in print in AD.nl

Built, wrapped and e-drivetrain installed, the water taxi is currently in Delft for some on the water tests.

In a few weeks the vessel will be on the road to Rotterdam for tests with its hydrogen fuel source.

"𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜" - Change Inc. covered our THRUST program's plan to launch the world's first hydrogen powered water taxi in Rotterdam!

This project was put together by the SWIM consortium, made up of our THRUST program, Flying Fish, Zepp.solutions and Watertaxi Rotterdam

We came together to prove zero-emission transport on water practical and profitable and if all goes well, we'll be launching in May!

But how can this one vessel lead to wider change in the maritime industry?
👉 The project will demonstrate the safety and efficiency of hydrogen on water, inspiring others to adopt the technology.

👉 A challenge for hydrogen in the prerequisite infrastructure, by building the demand for hydrogen as a fuel we hope to get the ball rolling on infrastructure development.

👉 The maritime industry has an enormous environmental footprint, there is already widespread recognition that things need to change. With this project, we aim to show the industry what its future could look like.

💭 When we say "If we could do it alone, we wouldn't be dreaming big enough" this is exactly what we mean. We're proud to announce our latest partnership with GIZ and Concordia Textiles. 🧺

Despite being one of the world’s largest textile producers and importers of used clothing India lacks an infrastructure to deal with textile waste, leaving an estimated four million informal waste workers trapped in low-income, unreliable jobs.

This is why together with GIZ India and Concordia Textiles we formed the “Putting Waste to Work” partnership. This collaboration is made possible by the develoPPP funding program supported by the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ).

In three years we will build a commercially scaled value chain for textile waste management, diverting 40 million Kgs of waste from landfill and creating >5,000 jobs for waste workers.

Clearly, waste is one of the textile industry’s greatest challenges — while post-consumer waste or used clothes represents the third highest form of municipal waste coming from households in India, pre-consumer waste is globally landfilled or incinerated to the tune of approximately 15 million k...

The Dutch government will ban disposable cups in the workplace, festivals & the catering industry. This is exactly the kind of change we started Mission Reuse to drive. But, does it go far enough? 👇

Whilst certainly a great step this legislation comes with loopholes that could drastically reduce its effectiveness. Checkout a great article on this by our program partner Recycling Netwerk Benelux in the comments.

We started Mission Reuse, together with Recycling Netwerk Benelux and Natuur & Milieu to drive the adoption of real reusable solutions through campaigning, lobbying and building business cases for reuse.

Legislation like this is an awesome example of the appetite for reuse and a circular economy.

But it doesn't all have to driven by the stick 📏

✔️ Answering the demand of environmentally aware consumers
✔️ Increasing customer loyalty and retention with deposit systems
✔️ Providing great opportunities for storytelling and branding

Less than 2 years ago our THRUST program set out to 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱'𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗮𝘅𝗶 as part of the SWIM Consortium. Now they're almost ready to launch 👇

Not just a concept, not just a render, but a commercially viable fully operational demonstration of hydrogen as a fuel on water.

In the capital intense maritime industry - this is as lean as it gets!

With this one vessel, our THRUST program aims to pave the way for a zero-footprint maritime industry and showcase the potential and practicality of hydrogen as a fuel.

In Rotterdam? You could be in for a zero-emission ride on the water sooner than you think!

It towards the end of 2020 the SWIM consortium came together with the ambitious vision of setting sail with the world’s first hydrogen powered water taxi. These are the final steps needed to make our project a reality.

As women make up over half of our team, we celebrate international women's day with the goal to ensure that the women our programs & ventures serve have the same awesome opportunities! 💪

As a woman in a male dominated industry for over 30 years, to me, international women's day means celebrating women hood and recognising our importance to society. Heading Khaloom, where the majority our staff are women is a way to pay tribute to the strength, compassion, knowledge and multi-tasking ability inherent in women. For me freedom is key to women's empowerment.

We have made a lot of progress already and it's good to celebrate that. However the same time, we're definitely not there yet. Especially in the sectors we work in at Enviu (textile production, food production, etc.) the role of women is so crucial and yet they often lack the rights and opportunities they deserve. Behind every impact number is a story... 👩‍🌾
One year ago, Rebecca Njeri was ready to give up on farming and move to the city. That was until she met our venture SokoFresh:

The middlemen Rebecca had been selling to took such a cut that her two acre avocado farm was just not enough to support her. She planned to move on in search of better pay.

However, once onboarded by our cold storage-as-a-service venture SokoFresh she found herself able to sell more of her produce at a better price, significantly increasing her income.

So much so that her plans have changed....
..and she won't be moving to the city anymore.

Instead she'll stay put, and plant a few more avocado trees! 🥑

It's easy to get lost in the numbers. Rebecca is just one of the 3000 farmers onboarded to date by our FoodFlow program - her story reveals the real, human impact created by our impact venture building.

3000 farmers onboarded, 141 tons of produce traded, 380 jobs created and $187,000 of financial benefit created for society.

And those numbers are just the beginning!

We're immensely proud of the team, but they're not resting on their laurels - they're far from finished!

Enviu East Africa paid a visit to our sorting center in partnership with Purfi 👋 The workers sort an amazing 𝟭𝟬𝟬𝗸𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝘆! All to be sold and rejuvenated back to virgin quality fibers.

Liz Muturi gave Annika Lieben and Eveline Jansen a tour of the facility and a glimpse of where the waste from the fast fashion industry ends up...

With our partnership Closing Loop On Textile Waste, we are laying the foundation of a circular economy for textiles, reclaiming value from this enormous amount of textile waste.
