Planungswerkstatt ULAP-quartier Berlin

Today Bureau B+B and FAKT office for architecture present their proposal for the ULAP-quartier urban development competition. As part of the urban development competition dialogue, Bureau B+B together with FAKT and in dialogue with the city and inhabitants developed an urban planning concept proposing a new urban quarter situated right next to Haubtbahnhof in Berlin. Today five teams present their proposal to the jury followed by a presentation to the inhabitants of Berlin.

We are proud to see our project published among the 22 best projects in Urban Design and Landscape Architecture of the year 2020. The jury reviews the project as a ‘stroke of genius’. “The landscape around the sluice gates is now more legible, while at the same time shrouded in mystery”.

Bureau B+B presents the project Aquabattery Recharged at the Act & Adapt exhibition
As part of the Climate Adaptation Week Groningen nine landscape architects from the Netherlands and abroad took up the challenge to design the future landscape of Groningen in 2120. Bureau B+B developed a vision for the Hunze river valley, imagining it as a local and nature-based fresh water source: Aquabattery.
The nine visions will be presented during a livestream and exhibition which will be opened on the 19th of January.

We present a greener and climate adaptive Alkmaar city center.
This week construction started on the planting works as part of an extensive plan to make the city center of the city of Alkmaar more green, more pleasant and climate adaptive; ‘de prachtstraatjes’. Bureau B+B was responsible for the vision and design of the project.
The project involves the transformation of 13 streets, alleys and canals including doorstep gardens, vertical gardens, suspended gardens and a variety of pots and planters.
The project was initiated by the association of entrepreneurs and executed in collaboration with the municipality of Alkmaar and Koomen gardens.
The project is part of a wider collections of projects with the shared aim of transforming Alkmaar into the most green and attractive inner city of the Netherlands. Next to ‘Prachtstraatjes’ Bureau B+B is responsible for the development plan for the ringpark surrounding the city center and the design of one of the main shopping streets ‘de Laat’.

Our research by design project is part of the ‘Stadsranden Lab’ livecast programme hosted by BNA and ARCAM Architectuurcentrum Amsterdam that will cover discussions on the city edge, 5 visions on the Amsterdam fringes and the exhibition EndLESS.

Right outside the city of Rotterdam lies two monumental Dutch estates: De Tempel and Nieuw Rhodenrijs.
The estates will be redeveloped into a residential area for the elderly combined with a public park as part of the recreational route on the north fringe of the city.
The estate de Tempel is greater than 300 years old and the area has a rich wildlife. Therefore, the care facilities and recreation must be interwoven carefully. Bureau B+B designed the master plan.
Last summer the boat pier on the river Schie was constructed as part of the first phase of the redevelopment. We are pleased to see swimmers discovered the deck as a great swimming spot!

Rome Reforested - the tree as a cure for the urban streetscape is a proposal to plant 3 million trees in the city of Rome – 1 tree every inhabitant.
Bureau B+B developed a strategy in which the upcoming mobility transition towards new sustainable models is placed parallel to the gradual development of nature in the city.

Our project LIEVEN is nominated for the Amsterdam award for residential projects: Zuiderkerkprijs.
LIEVEN is a double urban campus in the west of Amsterdam housing starters and students as well as a café, a wash-atelier and a gym for various sports. The first phase was designed by our friends at Arons en Gelauff architecten. Bureau B+B designed the public spaces, roof- patio and communal gardens as well as a wadi for urban water management.
Located right in between the metro station and a neighborhood center, LIEVEN offers an alternative public route through a lush and green garden creating a unique mix between city life and collective living.
The lush planting, abundant trees and wadi’s make the gardens a spot for relaxation, urban cooling, biodiversity and healthy urban living!
The first phase is completed, the second phase is under construction.

Under construction: lock-control-center and landscape integration of the monumental Lock Eefde.
The monumental lock complex in Eefde will be extended with a new lock. Bureau B+B made the design of the landscape and the lock control building.
The new control-center was imagined as a contemporary addition to the typical white monolithic lock buildings from 1933.
To offer a public benefit we designed the roof as a viewing platform with a generous sitting staircase.
Bureau B+B was part of the consortium Lock to Twente, consisting of TBI, Mobilis and croonwolter&dros.

Bureau B+B as part of a team led by IND architects took second place in the international competition for the development of a masterplan for the Almetyevsk reservoir territory (RU).

The proposal revolves around the idea of interlinking city, river valley and hills into one coherent landscape experience. Along a double loop multiple leisure, cultural and educational hotspots allow for a true meeting of the community and its surrounding landscape. The proposal was developed based on the concept of building with nature, including reforesting the hillsides, recreating wetlands along the river and enhancing the local ecology.

The team consisted of IND architects (Moscow, Russia), Bureau B+B urbanism and landscape architecture (Amsterdam, Netherlands), JTP Studios (London, UK), ARCHDESANT (Kazan, Russia), Knight Frank (Moscow, Russia), Shanghai DaPei (Shanghai, China).

Site visit: Center Court Kerkrade

Construction has started on the mixed use leisure center bringing together sports, health, a swimming pool and leisure on a site right in the city center of Kerkrade.
Bureau B+B was commissioned by the municipalities to design a landscape park on top and surrounding the building complex
Center Court Kerkrade is a design of Moederscheim Moonen in collaboration with Wehrung and Bureau B+B urbanism and landscape architecture following a masterplan by KettingHuls.

Bureau B+B as part of Team DP6 selected for the redevelopment of Onderwijsboulevard 256 in ’s-Hertogenbosch.

Avans University of applied sciences will build approximately 20.000 m2 new educational facility on the ‘Onderwijsboulevard’ in the ‘Paleiskwartier’, right behind the Central Station of ’s-Hertogenbosch. Next to the schoolbuilding for Avans University the site will include housing for students and 1-2 person households for ‘BrabantWonen’, a parking facility and a green landscape, creating an urban campus that will activate encounter, interaction and multidisciplinary collaboration. The educational and residential buildings will be constructed with sustainable and modular building systems, allowing for future adaptations. Team DP6 architectuurstudio won the tender for this integral commission with a Total Engineering-team consisting of Bureau B+B urbanism and landscape architecture, Stevens Van Dijck, Nelissen ingenieursbureau, Pieters Bouwtechniek and Hi-plusadvies.
