Not every great home looks great at first sight. 🏡✨

When we first viewed this property for an international family with two children, seeing its full potential wasn’t easy.

The home was packed with the previous tenants’ belongings, it had been heavily lived in, and we weren’t allowed to film during the viewing. But sometimes, a successful house search means looking beyond what’s in front of you and imagining what a property could become.

And luckily, this family did exactly that.

After securing the home, the owners put a huge amount of effort into refreshing it within just a few days, and by move-in, it looked completely different.

The result? A spacious four-bedroom family home in IJsselstein, a historic town near Utrecht with canals, green surroundings and plenty of water, while still offering easy access to the wider Randstad.

And there was one particularly lovely surprise… 🚤

Their new home even comes with a little boat, ready for them to explore the waterways of IJsselstein.

Sometimes the right home is somewhere you never thought to look. 🏡💛

When this international family with three young boys started their search, Leiden was firmly on their radar.

But moving to a new country means making huge decisions based on places you may have only visited, or simply heard about.

That’s where local knowledge makes a difference.

By getting to know the family, their lifestyle and what they hoped their new life in the Netherlands would look like, we were able to broaden the search beyond the locations they already knew.

That search brought us to Hillegom. A green, family-friendly town between Leiden and Haarlem that hadn’t originally been on their list.

We found them a beautiful home with water and boats right outside their front door. But the best part of this story came later.

The boys have made friends throughout their street. The family has been warmly welcomed into the neighbourhood. They’re joining the local football club. And when we recently checked in, they told us just how happy they are there. 🥹

Part 2: the home is ready. 🏡✨

After the remote viewing, the house search, and securing the property, it’s finally time for this family to arrive and start their new chapter in the Netherlands.

Before move-in, we make sure everything is ready and waiting for them, including a small welcome gift from Great Expatation, something we do for every client. 💛

But our support doesn’t stop once the contract is signed or the keys are handed over.

What does a house viewing look like when our clients are still living abroad? 🌍🏡

This reel is a shortened version of a remote viewing video that was originally around nine minutes long, of a wonderful fully-renovated apartment in Amsterdam Oost.

We don’t just film the most photogenic rooms. We walk our clients through the layout, storage, natural light, condition of the property, practical facilities, surrounding streets, nearby shops, green spaces, and everything else that helps them understand what everyday life there could actually feel like.

For this international family, the search led us to a lovely ground-floor apartment in Watergraafsmeer, Amsterdam East, with three bedrooms, a newly installed kitchen, and an enormous private garden.

Remote house hunting can feel overwhelming, but with the right support, it’s possible to make informed and confident decisions before arriving in the Netherlands.

Previously in Part 1, we showed you how we completed a fully remote viewing for a family still living in the United States.

Now, their application has been accepted, the home is completely empty, and everything is ready for their move to the Netherlands. 🇺🇸➡️🇳🇱

This beautiful family home is located on Waardeiland in Leiden — a peaceful, waterside neighbourhood just five minutes by bike from the historic city centre.

The property offers four bedrooms, a private garden, two balconies, air conditioning, its own driveway, and direct water access at the rear with space for a small boat.

It is also conveniently located near the international school in Leiderdorp, making it a great match for their family’s new daily life.

What started as a remote viewing from across the Atlantic has now become a real, move-in-ready home.

The rooms may be empty now, but soon they’ll be filled with furniture, family routines, and new memories.

How do you view a home in the Netherlands when you’re still living in the United States? 🇺🇸➡️🇳🇱

For this family, the entire house search had to happen remotely.

They were looking for a charming family home with enough space for their child and dog, ideally close to a historic city centre. We explored several character-filled areas, including Leiden, Haarlem, and The Hague.

This remote viewing took us to Waardeiland, a peaceful and lesser-known part of Leiden surrounded by water.

The property is around five minutes by bike from the city centre, close to the international school in Leiderdorp, and even has water access at the rear for a small boat.

During a remote viewing, we don’t just show the rooms. We look at the details our clients would normally inspect themselves, the condition, natural light, storage, outdoor space, surroundings, and anything the listing photos might not reveal.

From Seattle to Amsterdam 🇺🇸➡️🇳🇱

This young family was looking for a furnished home in Amsterdam that would feel comfortable, practical, and well suited to family life.

They initially hoped to live near Vondelpark, but they were also open to other neighbourhoods with green space, character, and plenty to enjoy nearby.

We found them this beautiful ground-floor home in Amsterdam West, complete with a private patio and within walking distance of Westerpark and the Westergasfabriek.

The property came in within budget and offered exactly what they were looking for: outdoor space, a lively neighbourhood, and a welcoming home in a great part of the city.
