THE IETA FORWARD PROGRAM!!!

Join us this weekend for another sessions on our Knowledge focus phase for the participants of the IETA Forward Program Cohort 2. The Themes; Risk management in Islamic finance and Islamic Insurance (Takaful). These will focus on enlightening the participants on how to mitigate risk in ethical and sustainable finance, the risks associated with some ethical financing tools, and other necessary information, and also focus on enlightening the participants on ethical and sustainable insurance, the importance of insurance, and how ethical insurance (Takaful) works. We are happy to have Mubarak Ibrahim Danraka, a credit analyst at Taj Bank and Abubakar Abdullahi Owuna, Phd, a manager and business development at Crown Takaful Limited to facilitate these sessions, given their inspiring journey in Islamic finance, their accolades, and achievements in the field.

Join us today as we continue the Knowledge Focus phase for the participants of the IETA Forward Program Cohort 2. The Theme- Shari'a Advisory; role, process, and Importance. This will focus on enlightening the participants on the need for advisory in Islamic Finance, its role, as well as the processes. We are happy to have Wazirat Sanni, a lawyer, financial planner, and post-graduate student from INCEF University, Malaysia, to facilitate this session tomorrow, given her knowledge on Shari'a advisory, Islamic finance, and her achievements in the industry.

IETA Forward Program – Knowledge Focus Phase Begins. Theme: Islamic Finance: Tools, Advantages, and Stance in Today’s World

Last Saturday, we officially opened the Knowledge Focus Phase of the IETA Forward Program Cohort II with a transformative session led by the Co-founder of NextIF, Yusuf Abdulwasiu. The session explored the evolving landscape of Islamic Finance and its growing relevance in today’s global economy.

Our speaker highlighted how Islamic finance, grounded in ethical principles, transparency, and real economic activity has become a stable and disciplined alternative in a rapidly changing world.

The session underscored that Islamic finance is more than a financial system. It is a principle-driven, socially responsible, and future-aligned economic alternative.

We are proud to equip our cohort with knowledge that not only strengthens their academic foundation but also empowers them to become active contributors to ethical and sustainable economic development.

Leveraging LinkedIn for Career Growth — IETA Forward Program Cohort II Session

As part of our ongoing commitment to shaping future-ready student leaders, the IETA Forward Program Cohort II held an impactful session on LinkedIn Optimization & Professional Communication. To empower participants with practical tools to navigate today’s digital career landscape.

Our speaker, Abdulwahab Lukman, emphasized why LinkedIn is no longer optional for students:
it is a global marketplace of opportunities where skills, visibility, and networking directly influence employability. He walked the participants through:

✅ Why LinkedIn matters: how employers actively use it to identify, screen, and evaluate candidates.
✅ How students can navigate the platform: from understanding LinkedIn’s ecosystem to building meaningful professional connections.
✅ Profile Optimization: using effective summaries, relevant keywords, compelling achievements, and a strong visual identity to stand out.
✅ Maintaining a strong profile: posting valuable content, engaging with industry leaders, and showcasing growth consistently.

This will focus on enlightening the participants on how to optimize their LinkedIn profiles and communicate as professionals. The IETA Forward Program Cohort II held a CV Writing and Essay Application session last Friday to help participants improve their employability and professional readiness. The session, facilitated by Mohammad Gimba, an Economics graduate from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, focused on practical strategies for crafting effective resumes and cover letters.

Key lessons included tailoring CVs to job descriptions, using relevant keywords, showcasing leadership experiences, and applying the AIDA model (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action) in writing persuasive cover letters. Participants also engaged in a hands-on CV development exercise.

Overall, the session enhanced participants’ understanding of professional self-presentation, strengthening their confidence and preparedness for future opportunities.

Meet the 2025/2026 Executives of the Islamic Economic Thought Association (IETA), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Since its establishment, IETA has consistently demonstrated commitment to advancing the understanding and practice of Islamic economics and finance within and beyond the university community, through public lectures, symposiums, seminars, conferences, and dialogues. The association continues to nurture young minds passionate about ethical and sustainable finance.

As we welcome the new administration led by Lukman Habeebullah as the president, our vision remains clear; to build upon past milestones, strengthen partnerships, and drive greater innovation in Islamic economic thought. As we continue the knowledge phase of the Forward Program, we had the privilege of hosting Mubarak Umar Danraka for a session on Fundamentals of Risk Analysis and Management in Islamic Finance. The discussion explored key principles, practices, and case studies in the field.

Mubarak Umar Danraka is a financial economist with expertise in Islamic finance, risk management, and credit analysis. He currently works as a Credit Analyst in the Risk Management Department of Jaiz Bank Plc and has over seven years of experience in Islamic Banking. He is also a certified Islamic finance specialist, holding multiple credentials from global institutions, including and from General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions (CIBAFI), as well as from the The Chartered Risk Management Institute of Nigeria (CRMI). He is also pursuing a Master’s in Financial Economics, with his research focused on liquidity management in Islamic banking.

The session was both insightful and engaging. Participants gained valuable insights into the various risks faced by Islamic financial instruments and institutions and explored practical mitigation strategies. The session concluded with a hypothetical case study showcasing real-world applications of risk management in the industry.

As we officially kick off the knowledge phase of the Forward Program, we were privileged to host Isiaka Halidu Ahmed, CSAA, C**A (ABD) for an introductory session on Islamic Economics and Finance, with a focus on Islamic Contracts and Modes of Financing.

Isiaka Halidu Ahmed, CSAA, C**A (ABD) currently works in the Portfolio Department of One17 Capital Limited, a fully Sharia-compliant asset management firm. With over five years of experience at Jaiz Bank Plc, including more than three years in the Corporate and Structured Finance Department, he brings a wealth of expertise to the field of Islamic Finance.

He completed his undergraduate studies in Economics at Ahmadu Bello University, and holds an MSc in Islamic Banking and Finance from the International Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIIBF-BUK), graduating with distinction. He is also a Certified Shari’ah Advisor and Auditor ( ) accredited by the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI).

The session was remarkably insightful, engaging, and enlightening. Complex concepts were simplified with exceptional clarity, and the broad categorization of modes of financing into equity-based, debt-like, and charitable-based structures, along with their instruments, was particularly impactful.

As we conclude the Career Phase of the IETA Forward Program today, we were privileged to host Musa Adamu Alkassim, who delivered an interactive session on "Mastering Professional Communication for Career Success."

Musa Adamu Alkassim currently works as a Data Quality Analyst at MAGNiTT, a leading venture capital research firm based in . During his undergraduate years, he gained valuable experience interning with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as a Communication and Community Event Intern, as well as with the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) as a Knowledge Dissemination Intern. He is also a Venture Fellow with Dream VC , a prominent investor accelerator program in .
