Today is International Education Day

From 2024 to 2025, UAF Scholarship Scheme witnessed first-hand what becomes possible when education is supported with intention and compassion.

In 2024, we sponsored a final-year student, ensuring that financial hardship did not derail their journey to graduation. It was a defining moment for us. It was a reminder that sometimes, all a student needs is timely support to cross the finish line.

Last year, we also supported a brilliant 400-level first-class student who needed financial assistance to continue their academic journey with stability and focus. With the support of our partners and donors, we stepped in. That intervention did not just ease a burden; it strengthened a future already full of promise.

These were not just acts of charity.
They were investments in futures.
They were reminders of what becomes possible when people come together to support education.

Today is International Education Day, and at UAF Scholarship Scheme, this day takes us back to our “why.”

We remember why we started.
Why we chose to stand in the gap for students who are willing to learn but lack the means.
Why we believe that education is more than classrooms, textbooks, or certificates.

For us, education is hope.
It is access.
It is the power to rewrite a young person’s future.

On this International Education Day, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that no deserving student is denied access to education because of poverty.

As we look ahead to 2026, we are opening our doors to partnerships and collaborations with individuals, organizations, and institutions who share our vision of expanding access to quality education. Together, we can reach more students, remove more barriers, and transform more lives.

At the UAF Scholarship Scheme, we do not just provide support for brilliant final-year undergraduate students who are on the verge of giving up on their academic pursuit due to financial challenges; we are equally intentional about capacity development and people growth, especially among our team members. We believe that the strength of our impact is directly tied to the competence, confidence, and well-being of the people working behind the scenes.

It was from this conviction that we organized a focused in-house training for our interns last week on Project Management with the theme "The Project Manager - revealing the behind the scenes".
The session was designed to help them build practical skills and gain a clear understanding of how real projects are professionally managed.

We started with the fundamentals of project management - what a project is, the role of a project manager, and how projects move through defined phases and lifecycles.

From there, we introduced them to the PMBOK® Guide by the Project Management Institute (PMI), breaking down the knowledge areas such as project scope management, project cost management, project schedule management, project quality management, project resources management, project communications management, project risk management, project procurement management, project stakeholders management, and project integration management.
We also highlighted their processes in a practical, relatable way.

To bring everything to life, we used the UAF Scholarship Scheme Project 2025 as a real-world case study.
We took our interns through the entire project journey - from initiation and planning, through ex*****on, monitoring, and control, to closing.
They were exposed to key project documents such as the Project Charter, different Project Plans, Communication Plan, Stakeholder Engagement Plan, and the RACI Matrix, helping them see how structure, clarity, and collaboration drive successful outcomes.

We also walked them through the tools we use daily, including Asana for task coordination, Microsoft Project for scheduling and timelines, and Excel for planning, tracking, and reporting.
This exposure was to help them connect theory to practice and understand how professional project managers work behind the scenes.

At the UAF Scholarship Scheme, intern wellbeing goes beyond welfare. It includes intentional learning, mentorship, and meaningful exposure to industry-standard practices.
We are committed to raising capable professionals while delivering impact, and we are proud of the growth we continue to see within our team.

What started last year as a quiet dream has now grown into a journey that is touching lives, stirring hearts, and reminding us why hope must never die.

This year, as we opened the Call for Applications, we witnessed something powerful.
Not just names and numbers, but stories. Stories of young people fighting to stay in school, pushing through hardship, and praying for a chance to cross the final stretch.

We reviewed every application with care.
We heard their voices during the interviews.
We saw their struggles… and their strength.

And when the scores were tallied, something became painfully clear: our internal budget notwithstanding how sincere as our intentions were, could not carry all the brilliant, qualified students who deserved support.

That reality humbled us. It broke us. But it also pushed us.
So, we reached out. We knocked on doors.

We made the bold Call for Partnership, believing that we could do more, not alone, but together. We discovered that when people join hands for a purpose bigger than themselves, possibilities begin to open.

This journey has shown us that one organization can help a few… but strategic partnerships can help many. And that is the future we are building.

And now, tomorrow, we gather.
Not just to award scholarships, but to celebrate courage.
To acknowledge struggle.
To honour resilience.
To remind every student that they are seen, valued, and supported, even when resources fall short.

UAF Scholarship Scheme - support for the final stretch.

Dear Prospective partners,

Greetings.

We want to share something serious with you.

We recently met some incredibly talented and ambitious final year students in Nigerian universities who are facing an impossible choice: drop out or push through, despite the tough financial struggles they are facing.
The demands of their final year program are suffocating: tuition fees, research fees, project writing, and more. It is a heavy burden, and it is heartbreaking to know that some of them are almost about to give up.

This is why we started the UAF Scholarship Scheme: to provide a lifeline to these students and help them cross the finish line.

Last year, we helped MacDonald Cookey, a brilliant final year Accounting student from University of Uyo, clear his tuition fees, and he is now a graduate preparing for the National Youth Service Corps, ready to make a difference in Nigeria.

We continued again this year. It has been a rigorous process. We received many application entries, and our team has worked tirelessly to review each one, verifying academic records, financial need, and personal statements. We shortlisted some students, conducted interviews, and verified documents with their institutions.

After a thorough selection process, we are proud to announce that we have identified three exceptional students who are on the verge of giving up, but with your help, we can change their story.
One of them is a first-class student, with a bright future ahead, but he needs our support to complete his program.

We are reaching out to you, because we believe you have the power to make a difference.

We are looking at raising #300,000 to support them. No amount is too small or too big - every naira brings them closer to their dreams.
