Quit looking for ideas, start talking about what you love
Hello Jumobi, please I need ideas on what business I can start? I get this a lot. For some sophisticated persons, they ask, my friends and I have this idea, what do you think about it?
Lovely! Lovely! It's no problem.
While at the back of my mind, I am asking how well does this person knows about this idea, I am also asking, do they have competence for it? But more importantly, I am asking, have I ever caught this person writing, commenting, or talking about this idea before now?
How well invested are they in this idea? Or is it just a rush of blood?
Whatever it is, dear friend, the first thing in pursuing a business idea is to discover what you love? What exactly is it that you love that you can spend time, energy, and resource to explore? How much time and energy can you commit to learning about it daily? I heard an illustration recently from Mark Lack, about how if you spend one-hour daily reading on a subject for 10 years, you are sure to become successful at it.
The same way the prospective entrepreneur must commit to learning about what they love or want to become good at. Learning always precedes excellent performance.
Now, there is another caveat to it. You need to create a rave, buzz around what you love. Shout it on the rooftop, scream it in the hall for all to know. Let people be able to associate you with that desire of yours. It is as you do this, you will find folks begin to recommend people, things, and resources that can help you get better.
There is so much putting out information about what you want to do does for you. It sets you up for success. So, next time someone tells you about a business idea or venture they want to start, tell them to commit to learning and most importantly, tell them to start talking about it. Circumstance just aligns in their favor.
Over to you, what do you think, outside learning and publicity, in what way do you think people can succeed at starting a new business? What ideas have helped you become really confident that your business will succeed? What baby steps do you think work for new businesses.
I will be glad to hear from you.
