If you’ve ever wondered why backing babies (“pon omo lęhin”) is such a deeply rooted Yoruba tradition, then let’s talk about a medical condition called Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH).

DDH is a condition where a baby’s hip joint doesn’t develop properly. In the Western world, it is screened for at birth, and when detected, babies are often placed in a special device called a Pavlik harness. This harness holds the baby in a “frog position” that encourages proper hip development.

Now here’s where it gets interesting… 😄, our mothers accidentally became orthopedic experts long before ultrasounds, pediatric orthopedics, or expensive harnesses became a thing.

Yoruba mothers and grandmothers especially were unknowingly doing the exact same thing. How? Through backing.

Yes ,ordinary baby backing. When a Yoruba woman backs her child, the baby naturally falls into the optimal hip position legs apart, hips flexed, and joints aligned.

This is precisely the same physiological posture that orthopedic surgeons aim for when treating DDH.

Growing up in my mother’s town of Asaba, a child could not be backed until three months after birth when it is assumed that the baby has already gotten a level of neck control. However, in the Yoruba culture of my father, we even back a day-old baby but it’s not done carelessly.
Yoruba women use three strips of cloth, each with a purpose:

1. The largest cloth wraps the baby securely to the backer’s body.
2. The second cloth supports the bum and legs and at that age, the legs are not forcefully spread; the baby stays in the natural curled position.
3. The third cloth supports the neck area, since a newborn cannot yet hold up their head.
This is how our Yoruba mothers protected the spine, the neck and still achieved the healthy hip positioning unintentionally.

So while modern medicine now tells us the science behind DDH, our people had already developed a technique that supported healthy hip development without knowing the anatomy or terminology.

Anthropological studies have even observed that many West African ethnic groups including the Yoruba tend to have exceptionally strong hip and pelvic structures.

This is often attributed to traditional carrying methods (backing and waist carrying),early childhood posture, physically active lifestyles, and
culturally preserved movement patterns. Chai! I remember the many slaps on myback by my aunt Ada Nwachinemelu Nw on my back when i was slouching because of my “big breasts” as a teenager and how I had to quickly correct my walking posture for fear of repercussions from her very fast hand🤣🤣🤣. I also remember the many rebuke by my late grandmother on me dragging my feet like a pregnant woman, one of the reasons I have been described as walking with a lithe elegance even today.

So yes, what some people see as “old-fashioned” is actually accidental pediatric physiotherapy passed down from generation to generation.

As a young mother, if you think you’re abandoning our indigenous methods purely because they seem “local,” think twice.
Not every Western substitute is superior. Sometimes, our ancestors were doing exactly the right thing without the medical vocabulary to explain it.

Culture is wisdom!
Wisdom is science waiting to be named!

*India’s medical sector is said to be on the verge of collapse soon — even a parliamentary committee has openly acknowledged this.*

According to a recent research report published on Zee News, around 44% of all surgeries performed in India are bogus, fake, or unnecessary. In other words, nearly half of all surgeries in hospitals are conducted mainly to extract money from patients or government insurance.

The report further classifies that in India, 55% of heart surgeries, 48% of hysterectomies (uterus removals), 47% of cancer surgeries, 48% of knee replacements, 45% of cesarean deliveries, and many shoulder and spine surgeries are fake or unnecessary.

A survey of many reputed hospitals in Maharashtra revealed that senior doctors in large hospitals earn salaries up to ₹1 crore per month. The reason: doctors who push patients into unnecessary tests, treatments, admissions, or surgeries earn more. (BMJ Global Health)

The Times of India has published several cases where dead patients were shown as alive and “treated” to claim money — one of the most disgusting frauds now being exposed across many places.

In one well-known hospital, a 14-year-old boy who had died was kept on a ventilator for a month under the pretense that he was alive and being treated — and only later declared dead. After complaints, the hospital was found guilty and paid ₹5 lakh in settlement. But what about the emotional trauma inflicted on the family?

Many times, fake “emergency surgeries” are conducted on already deceased patients — families are asked to pay urgently, and later told that the patient died during surgery. The hospital then collects the full surgery cost. (Source: “Dissenting Diagnosis” – Dr. Gadre & Shukla)

The medical insurance (mediclaim) fraud is equally horrifying. Around 68% of Indians have medical insurance, but when needed, most claims are denied or only partially paid through manipulations — forcing families to bear huge costs themselves.

Over 3,000 well-known hospitals have been blacklisted by major insurance companies for making false claims. During the COVID period, many big hospitals falsely claimed insurance money for fake COVID cases.

Alongside, a massive and horrifying human organ trafficking network also operates. The Indian Express reported a heart-wrenching 2019 case:
A woman named Sangeeta Kashyap from Kanpur was called to Delhi for a job interview by a reputed company. She was told to undergo a full medical check-up at the renowned Fortis Hospital before hiring. Admitted per procedure, she overheard doctors discussing “donors,” realized something was wrong, and fled. When she told her friend (who had brought her), he threatened her and demanded ₹50,000. After she went to the police, an investigation exposed a multi-crore international organ trafficking racket involving police, doctors, and hospital staff.

Everyone knows about the “Hospital Referral Scam.” Doctors refer patients claiming serious illness to large, branded hospitals like Apollo, Fortis, Apex, etc., often as part of referral programs where hospitals pay doctors per patient sent.

For example, Kokilaben Hospital (Mumbai) once openly advertised payments: ₹1 lakh for sending 40 patients annually, ₹1.5 lakh for 50, and ₹2.5 lakh for 75 patients — whether or not they were actually ill.

Another major fraud is the “Diagnosis Scam.”
Income Tax raids on some reputed pathology labs in Bengaluru uncovered over ₹100 crore in cash and 3.5 kg of gold kept aside as doctor commissions. Doctors refer patients for unnecessary tests, earning 40–50% commissions. Many labs falsify reports after performing only 1–2 real tests. Out of nearly 200,000 labs in India, only about 1,000 are certified — yet the business is highly profitable.

Similarly, pharma companies run their own massive bribery schemes. Around 20–25 big drug firms spend ₹1,000 crore per year on doctors. During COVID, the maker of the painkiller Dolo was exposed for giving ₹1,000 crore in “incentives.” Doctors receive cash, foreign trips, and luxury stays in return for prescribing specific brands. For example, USV Ltd. reportedly offers doctors ₹3 lakh cash and trips to Australia or the U.S.

Pharma companies also sell drugs and surgical tools to hospitals at extremely low prices, but hospitals charge patients full MRP — reaping huge margins. India Today exposed that Emcure’s Temikure (a cancer drug) is sold to hospitals at ₹1,950, but patients are billed ₹18,645. This is common across hospitals. (India Today Hospital Scam Survey Report)

The Medical Council of India (MCI), the apex regulatory body, was found complicit. In 2016, a government-appointed committee reported that MCI eagerly approved new medical colleges but deliberately neglected to regulate doctors and hospitals.
Doctors routinely violate MCI rules without public awareness. Examples include:
1. Doctors must prescribe only generic (salt) names, not branded drugs — rarely followed.
2. Rule 1.8: Doctors must disclose full fees before treatment — often ignored.
3. Patients’ informed consent must be obtained before tests or treatments.
4. Medical records must be preserved for at least three years.
5. Unethical, dishonest, or incompetent doctors should be publicly reported without fear.
6. Government health scheme scams: Patients (e.g., ex-servicemen) are admitted for minor issues, falsely enrolled under government insurance, and billed for fake treatments. These inflated bills are approved by corrupt officials — hospitals pocket the money.

Spread this message to all citizens so that every family can protect themselves from such dangers.

🙏 A message for public awareness and national service. 🙏

S***m from a donor who unknowingly carried a gene that raises the risk of cancer was used to conceive almost 200 children across Europe.

A major investigation revealed the s***m was not sold to UK clinics, but some families did use the s***m while having fertility treatment in Denmark.

Some children have already died and many more with the gene will go on to develop cancer in their lifetimes.

I always threatened my wife that I would get another wife just to make her scared.

Growing up, I was made to believe that if you want your wife to behave well and respect you, you must always remind her that you can easily get a second wife.

So I carried that mindset into my marriage.

Anytime my wife annoyed me or didn’t move the way I wanted, my mouth would just open and say:

“I will marry another woman,” she would suddenly adjust.

She would rush to the kitchen, prepare my favourite meal, clean everywhere, talk to me with extra respect, and tiptoe around me like I was some king she must keep happy.

To me, it looked like the trick was working.
I felt powerful.
I felt in control.
After all, she depended on me for everything. She was a full-time wife, and I felt I could use that to intimidate her.

But life has a way of humbling a man.

I started noticing my wife posting crochet wears on her WhatsApp status. She’s gifted with her hands, but I had once stopped her from doing it, telling her to focus on the kids.

Whenever I asked, she would say she was trying to keep herself busy while the children were in school.

Before long, she got small clients.
Then she said she wanted to upgrade her crochet skills. I frowned, but she pleaded and promised it wouldn't affect her duties, so I agreed.

Slowly, she began to shine.

Her work became better.
Her confidence increased.
And then, she landed a client abroad who gave her a big contract.

That was when everything changed.

One evening, I came home tired and hungry. She had just started cooking. I flared up immediately. She calmly said and pleasded she was trying to finish a customer’s order.

That touched my ego, and I repeated my usual line:

“Don’t make me go and marry another wife o!”

But that night…

My wife did not cry.
She did not panic.
She did not run to beg me.
She did not cook out of fear.

She simply looked at me and said:

“Do whatever you want. I’m done living in fear. If marrying another wife will give you peace, please go ahead.”

She served my food and went to bed.

The confidence in her voice shook me to my bones.

For the first time, she didn’t look like the scared woman trying to please me.
She looked like a woman who had finally discovered herself.

And from that day, something changed in the house.

She stopped tiptoeing around my moods.
She stopped begging for my approval.
She stopped acting like she was lucky to have me.

She became more focused.
More intentional.
More busy.
More bold.

The woman who used to tremble when I raised my voice now spoke calmly and confidently.

The woman who feared the words “second wife” now walked with her shoulders high.

She cooked when she wanted, not when she feared.
She spoke only when necessary.
She respected me, but not out of fear.

She became a version of herself I had never seen.
Strong.
Busy.
Growing.
Independent.

And honestly…

Her new strength scared me more than anything.

All these years, I thought she needed me to survive.
I thought she was weak.
I thought intimidation was leadership.

But the day she stopped being afraid was the day I lost my power.

And it opened my eyes.

I realised I was threatening a woman who simply hadn’t discovered her strength yet.
And when she finally did, I saw clearly that I was the one who needed to change.

One day I told myself I am gradually losing this woman if I don't act fast.

When I got home after work, I went to meet her and apologized, not the “sorry” men say just to end a conversation, but a deep apology from my heart.

Not because she asked…
but because I knew I had broken something valuable.

I held her hand and told her I would unlearn every toxic belief society taught me about marriage.

Because a real man does not lead with fear.
A real man leads with love, respect, patience and maturity.

I told her I would never use that sentence again.

And here is the beautiful part…

As I started changing, she softened again, this time not out of fear, but out of genuine love.

We began talking more.
Laughing more.
Working together.
Supporting each other’s dreams.

Her success became our success.
My growth became her comfort.

Slowly, peacefully, intentionally…
our love became stronger than it had ever been.

A love built on respect.
A love built on understanding.
A love built on partnership, no longer fear.

And today, I am grateful I didn’t lose her before I realised her worth.

• Dear men, stop using fear to lead your home. It doesn’t make you powerful, it makes you insecure.

• If you don’t support your wife’s growth, you’re standing in the way of your own blessings.

• A confident woman is not a threat, she is an asset.

• Marriage is partnership, not dictatorship.

• And most importantly… never wait until she stops being afraid before you change. By then, you may lose more than you realize.

A Nigerian doctor, Richard Akinrolabu, has been jailed for three years in the United Kingdom after admitting to defrauding the National Health Service (NHS) of more than £268,000 through false representation.

A statement published on its website by the UK NHS Counter Fraud Authority (NHSCFA) on Monday said Akinrolabu, 61, was employed as a trust grade specialist registrar in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Princess Royal University Hospital.

Back pain isn’t always caused by long work hours or heavy lifting. Sometimes, the real culprit is how you sleep. Experts now warn that one common sleeping position can silently damage your spine and muscles over time.
Studies reveal that sleeping on your stomach is one of the worst things you can do for your back. When you lie face down, your spine twists unnaturally, your neck strains to one side, and your lower back arches more than it should. This constant misalignment puts pressure on discs and nerves, often leading to chronic pain, stiffness, and even numbness in the limbs.
The spine’s natural curve is designed to stay neutral while resting, allowing muscles to relax and joints to recover. But when posture is off, your body spends the night fighting against gravity instead of healing. Over time, this adds up, you wake up sore, tired, or with tension that won’t go away.
The best sleeping positions for spinal health are on your back or your side. When lying on your back, place a small pillow under your knees to reduce pressure on the lower spine. If you prefer sleeping on your side, tuck a pillow between your knees to keep hips and shoulders aligned. Even small adjustments like choosing a firm mattress and a supportive pillow can make a big difference.
Sleep should restore you, not strain you. Pay attention to how you rest, your body’s future depends on it. Because when your spine rests right, everything else falls into place.

Many men don’t realize they are getting weaker, not from age, but from lifestyle.

By the time symptoms show, damage has been building for years.

Below are 7 warning signs your health might be declining silently 👇🏽

A thread

🔑 You wake up tired
No matter how much you sleep, you still feel drained. It could be low testosterone, poor sleep quality, or early diabetes.

🔑 You sweat more than usual
Unexplained sweating, especially at night, can signal heart problems or thyroid imbalance.

🔑 Your urine stream is weak or slow
This could be an early sign of prostate enlargement, common in men after 40 but dangerous if ignored.

🔑 You easily forget things
Memory lapses or poor focus can mean high stress, poor sleep, or even high blood pressure affecting brain health.

🔑 You’ve lost interest in s*x
It’s not “just work stress.” Low testosterone, poor blood flow, or even depression could be behind it.

🔑 Frequent heartburn
It’s not always from pepper soup. Persistent acidity can lead to ulcers or esophageal damage.

🔑 You hardly go for checkups
This is the deadliest one. Many men only see a doctor when they collapse,
by then, it’s often too late.

Men, your body speaks, but whispers first.

Don’t wait for it to scream!!!

🩺 *WHY YOUR BP MEDICATION ALONE WON’T SAVE YOU!* 💊💉

*_Let’s talk..._*

Because some of you are swallowing BP drugs like groundnut—

Morning and night...

Yet your pressure is still climbing like NEPA pole.

📌 One year...

📌 Two years...

📌 Five years on the same medication...

But your numbers are still misbehaving?

Let me tell you the truth no one is saying:

👉🏾 _Your medication is only managing the symptom, not the cause._

If you don’t attack the lifestyle that’s feeding the hypertension,

You’re not healing…
You’re just buying time.

*_Let’s break it down_* 👇🏾

🚫 1. BP meds can’t cancel salty soup

You’re taking amlodipine…
But still cooking with 3 Maggi cubes and adding extra salt?

Salt + stock cube = trouble.
Too much sodium?

_BP will rise. Full stop._

🚫 2. You can’t sit all day and expect blood to flow like river Jordan

You lie down, sit, eat, lie down again...

You don't move your body at all.
No movement,
No mercy.

_BP meds won’t exercise for you._

🚫 3. Processed food is a blood vessel saboteur.

Canned tomatoes
Sausage rolls
Sugary bread
Sweet drinks...

They look innocent—but they’re attacking your arteries silently.

And you’re blaming “family history”?

_No. It’s processed food history that’s fighting you._

🚫 4. Stress is pressing your pressure

You don’t sleep well.
You carry everybody’s burden.
You never forgive.
You worry for Africa.
Emotional load becomes
blood pressure load.

_No drug can cancel chronic stress._

🚫 5. Dehydration is tightening your blood vessels

You drink everything but water.

Malt, zobo, Coke—but no pure water.

BP will rise when your inside is dry.

_No drug hydrates like water._

🚫 6. You’re skipping the real healing foods

Where’s your ugwu?
Where’s garlic, ginger?
Where’s cucumber, banana?

You run from banana because “it has sugar”

But you eat Agege bread soaked in Coke like it’s breakfast for champions.

BP meds + junk food = slow su***de.

📌 Now hear this and hold it tight:

*_Your drug is not a lifestyle pass._*

It’s only buying time.

_It won’t undo the daily damage of salty food, zero exercise, late nights, anger, and dry body._

If you want true healing, here’s the full combo:

✅ Food wisdom

✅ Movement

✅ Water

✅ Rest

✅ Emotional reset

That’s the treatment.

That’s the healing.

That’s the cure.

_So don’t be loyal to drugs and disloyal to your lifestyle._

*_You can’t medicate away what you need to change._*

I'm still on call, please.
