International Day of the Girl Child is an international observance day declared by the United Nations; it is also called the Day of Girls and the International Day of the Girl. October 11, 2012, was the first Day of the Girl Child. The observation supports more opportunity for girls and increases awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide based upon their gender. This inequality includes areas such as access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence against women and forced child marriage. The celebration of the day also "reflects the successful emergence of girls and young women as a distinct cohort in development policy, programming, campaigning and research". Lagos Shapers did not stall on observing it, as our Curator represented at two events to mark the 2018 with .africa to read about Queen Amina and her strength and for panel discussions, film screenings and performances that represent observing the day of the girl.

Thursday Report 11th May

On Thursday 11th May, the team was invited by the United Nations Information Centre where we presented the Director Dr. Ronald Kayanja with the pledges collected during the week. Kayanja welcomed the idea of the campaign as it helps in the achievement of the Global Goals for Sustainable development.

The latter also took the pledge. We also visited two secondary schools to speak to the students on how to observe the zebra crossing. Finally, the team went on air live at Nigeria Info 99.3 to speak to Nigerians about the need to slow down and observe zebra crossing. People called in and encouraged the team as it appears to be a good cause.
