The Grand Finale of Africa Re Champions Cup 2026 was officially kicked off by the Group Managing Director /CEO of Africa Re, Dr. Corneille Karekezi on 19 July 2026 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos, Nigeria.
Prior to the start of the tournament a draw ceremony was held at The Africa Re House, Lagos, where representatives of the sixteen (16) participating companies witnessed the live draws conducted under the leadership of the Deputy Managing Director (DMD), Mr. Kiiza Bichetero
The tournament was organized as part of Africa Re's 50th Anniversary celebrations under the theme, "50 Years of Excellence: Kicking Off the Future Together. The ceremonial kick-off was performed by the Regional Director, West Africa Regional Office, Mrs. Temitope Akinowa on 19 April 2026.
Stanbic IBTC Insurance emerged as champions of this maiden edition of the tournament which aimed at uniting the Nigerian insurance industry.

On 21 November 2025, the African Reinsurance Corporation Nairobi Regional Office proudly hosted a high-level Breakfast Meeting for Kenyan Insurance Industry CEOs at the Radisson Blu, Upper Hill.
Dr Phocas Nyandwi (Regional Director) open the session, followed by insightful remarks from our Chief Guest, Mr Godfrey Kiptum (Commissioner of Insurance & CEO, Insurance Regulatory Authority of Kenya (IRA-K)).

The keynote address was delivered by Dr Corneille Karekezi (Group MD & CEO, Africa Re).

Africa Re was represented at African Heads of States & Financial Leaders Breakfast Dialogue at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 16 February 2025. The event organized by the African Union and the Alliance of African Multilateral Financial Institution (AAMFI) aimed at mobilizing African investment and financial capacities to advance the African Union Agenda 2063. The Ghanaian President, H.E John Dramani MAHAMA, presided over the event.

Dr. Corneille Karekezi, Group MD/CEO of Africa Re, participated in the Dialogue as the 2nd President of the Alliance of African Multilateral Financial Institutions (AAMFI). He advocated for a stronger and more sustainable insurance industry in Africa. Picture below :
