I was 19 years old at the time, admitted as a pioneer student of the leading institution founded by your visionary leadership.
I resumed late to meet a very tense campus. The fury of the Chancellor was in the mouth of every student and faculty.
While I was trying to decipher what had transpired, I was awestruck with the magnificent structure of the tabernacle called Faith, the scrupulously paved roads and horticulture and the fully built university campus that comprised colleges, hostels, cafeteria and staff quarters which were all built within a year.
The bone of contention was that there were strict rules and expected behavior from kings and queens of Covenant University (the Students) and you simply can't do as you like.
That was easy for me coming from a hard and harsh childhood experience. I had been looking for an escape route from my mystery and if keeping rules to stay in a sane environment for the next four years was what it takes, that was an easy peel for me. But a good number of the students were not having it.
At that point, I felt like the JURY; to judge the matter between the Chancellor and the students and decide on whose side I belong. I have heard from the students, I would wait to hear from the Chancellor before judging the matter
I settled in, and then it was time to commence our weeklong orientation with the Chancellor, which became my own first encounter with the Chancellor.
So here we are, my second night of arrival, it was time to have my own encounter with the Chancellor but it was a tape I got to watch first. A tape where he preached fervently to the youths in one of the church's conventions.
For the first time, someone told me I mattered in God's kingdom, I have a purpose to fulfil for Christ. The world and the people in it depended on me fulfilling my purpose. Destinies are tied to me. Before then all I knew was making heaven. He dissected scriptures so well and quoted over 50 scriptures off hands. He preached so passionately, he was out of words and started weeping on the pulpit. I was shocked, surprised, and teary. I have never seen or heard such a thing in my life.
That was it. HE WON.
Happy 70th Birthday Papa
