Dear Visionary,
I need you to understand that the beginning of every vision is often lonely, but you must not let this stop you. Many a times, you are the only one that knows what you've seen. Others may fail to understand, including the ones very close to you.
I understand that having people buy into our vision is very comforting and reassuring but you must learn to bear your vision alone at the start, even if no one buys into it. The pressure to get people buy into or approve of it might discourage you or make you think you're not seeing right.
This reminds me of a scripture, in Daniel 10:7. where Daniel said, “And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision, but a great trembling fell upon them, and they fled to hide themselves.” Don't expect too much from those who do not see what you see about where God is taking you.
Even though those men were with Daniel, some of them his close friends, they couldn't see what he saw. The vision was only given to him. That was why they were so afraid and went to hide themselves. Sometimes, your spouse may not see what you see, your parents may not see it too, but don't be discouraged.
People who can't see what you see are likely not to commit to your vision. They may even conclude that you're stupid or crazy. They may threaten to desert you or stop sponsoring your previous pursuits, you would need the wisdom of God to navigate this terrain but don't be discouraged.Jesus once told his disciples about the things He would suffer towards his death for our sins, and Peter one of His closest disciples had to call him to a corner scolding him thinking He must be crazy. The Bible records it like this, “Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. “Far be it from You, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to You!”
Jesus' reply is worth studying. He said, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.” Jesus saw through Peter's rebuke. He knew it was the devil trying to stop him through Peter. Jesus was not offended, instead he rebuked the devil - take note, he didn't do it publicly.
People's reasons for not buying into your vision may not be personal, and you shouldn't take it that way. In fact, like Peter, some of them are doing it out of genuine love for you. They're perhaps thinking that they're saving you from your own ruins... but as long as you're clear God is leading you, you have to rebuke the devil and go for your vision with wisdom.
Again, not everyone would see or buy into your vision but you must not let that deter you. Not everyone would understand where God is taking you but you must keep going regardless. The journey may be lonely today but I assure you, if you won't give up, God will bring your own tribe to surround you soon, and you will be grateful you didn't give up.
