CALLIN THE ATTENTION OF HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT ALH BOLA AHMAD TINUBU:
With greetings and best wishes, I hope this letter of mine reaches you in good health and peace. May God help you and guide you in the responsibility that has been placed upon you to lead the people of Nigeria, our blessed country, our pride.
Furthermore, Your Excellency, I am aware that you know that the responsibility of building the economy and protecting the lives and property of the Nigerian people is among the major responsibilities that lie on your shoulders. And I know that anything that will contribute to economic development and the security of the lives and property of Nigerians is among the most important things that you give priority to in your government. And I am sure that anything that will hinder the economy and the security of the lives and property of Nigerians is something that you will not welcome or support. Your Excellency, I am therefore calling on you and drawing your attention to a serious problem that is occurring in the economic sector and which could lead to further deterioration of security in this blessed country of ours.
Mr. President, you are aware that in February 2025, the Customs seized over one million United States Dollars at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, and over three hundred thousand Saudi Riyals. Similarly, on April 26, it seized over eighty-six thousand United States Dollars. Then on July 7, it seized four hundred and twenty thousand United States Dollars, an amount of Saudi Riyals and an amount of Nigerien currency. All of these were seized and confiscated by the EFCC and handed over to the Federal Government for failure to declare them when they were imported into Nigeria.
Althoughfailure to declare these amounts is a crime, but the funds are for small businessmen. Small businessmen who are trying to provide for themselves, trying to take care of their families with these funds of theirs. They have nothing but these funds. I suggest, Your Excellency, in your compassion, and as a father to Nigerians, that they be pardoned, forgiven, and their funds returned to them so that they can continue to seek their fortune and to correct their mistakes.
Mr. President, you should know that as a result of this seizure, some have become poor, some have suffered paralysis, some have suffered high blood pressure, some have even become insane. The most dangerous part is that some of them are seeking to become terrorists altogether.
In this country, we know that murderers are pardoned to correct their mistakes, Boko Haram members are pardoned, kidnappers are pardoned, politicians who have been caught in corruption and bribery are pardoned. Therefore, please, Mr. President, in your mercy, pardon these people of yours who are mostly poor, return their wealth to them to correct their mistakes, so that economic development can take place, and finally, be saved from the threat of further deterioration of insecurity.
