There's money waiting to be made in this country regardless of how s**tty the economy is getting.
But Let's microanalyze for a little bit.
You're a student
You don't have a steady means of getting money except from your parents, Eventually you're hoping to graduate school with at the very least, a 3.1 CGPA but you don't, You leave school with a 2nd class lower or even worse a third class, All hopes of a Corporate Job is squashed.
You start hustling;
As a Guy, You sell anything or in some cases take out a loan.
You enter the Cryptocurrency world because rumour has it and you've seen it happen to others, That BTC is the fastest way to make money, but you forget
You had no prior knowledge to trading BTC or or otherwise and you end up blowing a good amount of money away because you lacked the sense to research well or even try other things that wouldn't have cost you so much money to begin with.
Or
As a Girl
You leave college fairly scaling through academically but financially, You aren't so bothered; You had a boyfriend who gave you money weekly when you were in school and still gives you money after you've graduated..
You aren't bothered about finances because there's someone bankrolling it, Someone you're sure is getting married to you.
But all of a sudden
Your boyfriend breaks up with you
He's found someone else and wants to marry her because according to him, She doesn't ask him for money for virtually everything that concerns her.
They get married, You land on your butt
You have an iPhone
You have multiple hair extensions
You used to have a girls night out
Now all of that is no longer an option for you anymore
You have to find a way to maintain this lifestyle now
With no prior skill whatsoever on anything, You're going to have to rely on your ability to attract rich men or otherwise you're back to where you were four years ago.
Or You have the sense of mind to somehow start a business with the money you still have saved.
You have no idea on how trading anything online works,
But because you've seen other people selling clothes, shoes, handbags and hair extensions online, You've even bought from said people before, You choose to sell hair extensions because to you, It has a very massive return.
You begin the hair business,
You open an IG page,
You start posting photos of hair extensions
You do this for a whole week, No one asks you s**t or even buys from you
You become restless
Your money has depleted and at a fast rate
You can't figure out what's wrong, "Why is no one buying from you?"
Forgetting you just started posting stuff online and really no one knows you at all
No one is buying a thing and you really need the money
You do the best thing you can think of
You close shop
You need another boyfriend that can be bankrolling you
"You can't be doing this everyday for a whole month or year"
You eventually find a boyfriend and this time around, He's wants to marry you.
He gives you money
You spend on whatever you want, You aren't bothered anymore.
Y'all get married
You're a wife now, You aren't seeing as much money as you want to see
You're restless again
You remember that hair page you'd opened a while back.
You tell hubby to give you money to start a business, He does.
You pay a supplier and now you have a products again.
You're still making the same mistakes
There's absolutely no one looking to buy anything from you, You're confused on what you're doing wrong.
You keep taking money online to keep blowing it without making any sales.
You give up, become a total housewife
Content with what hubby gives you
Still spending as Lavish as before
You're a rich man's wife, What could go wrong?
Until something does and you're now wondering why you couldn't invest or have another stream of income?
But you don't like stress
You seize thinking about that and continue relying on your husband, after all it's his job, You're the wife, you take care of the kids and whatnot, eventually learning to spend only on what you have to and not what you want.
A pattern is developed and you live with it.
There's nothing you can do
You're a married woman, another rich boyfriend is out of the question or Is it?
And there it is folks
We're always eager to adhere to stereotypes
"Who else is doing that to make money?"
"No one, So why should it be me?"
Or
"That is not a cool way or say the trendy and flashy way of making money and also not a lot of people are doing it, So why should I?"
Or
In the case of the Lady in the above scenario
Because you've become so self-centered and because you've seen others doing it and making it, you don't ask questions
After all, it can't be that hard
Until you find out it is that hard, But you still won't ask questions continuously blowing it.
When you could've easily sat down and thought to yourself,
"What am I good at?"
"What do I have the knowledge of?"
"Can I turn it into a business?"
"Is it a skill I can hone?"
Or even better
"What is the world thriving on at the moment?"
"Is it Tech?"
"Digital Marketing?"
"What can I do in a world that thrives on technology to make some money?"
You do a bit of research
You ask again,
"What skill is beginner friendly to learn in Nigeria?"
Something that makes it a bit easier for to start earning at least weekly.
Could be out of the norm but it's given a lot of people security.
You ask, "Is it something I can do?"
"What does it entail?"
"How long is it going to take me to start seeing results?"
"Do I have the patience and discipline already or do I have to train myself?"
With questions like that,
You're making progress and will eventually arrive at a definite answer with a definite strategy to follow.
Conforming ourselves to stereotypes will always limit our options.
Just because it isn't the "Cool" way of doing it doesn't mean you shouldn't at the very least take a look and know what it's about.
So again we arrive at the question of "Would you rather be the Guy/Lady aforementioned
Or
Will you have the patience to sit, research, learn, hone and perfect a skill that makes it easier for you to steadily scale your bank account at any give time on any given day under any circumstance?
