*GRACE TONIC*
*WEEK 1: JANUARY 8, 2019*
*TOPIC: EXPERIENCING OPEN HEAVEN*
*TEXT: LUKE 3:21-24*
_"When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too, and as he was praying, heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended on Him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph,” (LUKE 3:21- 23NIV)._
One of the bones of contention for unbelievers is: "What difference does faith in Christ makes especially when you consider it in terms of material gains?"
This is why if you base your faith in Christ on what can be acquired materially then your faith is built on sand. It cannot stand the test of time because unbelievers also have the things you have and even more.
They go to school, get married and give birth to children. They also get good jobs, buy cars, and built houses. So, what's special about your faith if your proofs are in these things?
Unfortunately, most of our evidences are these things. No wonder, we are not attracting unbelievers to the faith.
Meanwhile, there is a way the common things that happen to people can take an uncommon dimension in your life. God expects that what He does for you will be in the order of the extraordinary. It is the touch of heaven on the natural things that happens to you that brings the supernatural power into action.
Without this touch, whatever happens in your life will be ordinary. It will be described the way the baptism of Jesus was described, "Jesus was baptized too.”
The word ‘too’ suggests that the baptism of Jesus was not different from the rest of the people.
"When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too."
How I pray that the next phase of your life will not be ordinary! May people not describe your achievement this way, “She graduated too. He got married too. He bought a car too. He got ordained too. He travelled abroad too.” Only ‘too’ is added, nothing significant is attached. It is not different from the way it happens to others. I pray that “ordinary” is canceled over what God is about to do in your life in Jesus Name.
Jesus was very sensitive to what was happening. He knew He shouldn’t go out of that water the way others went out. He shouldn’t just be baptized too just for the sake of it. There ought to be a difference in His own baptism because He has a purpose to fulfill. Hence, He began to pray. “And as he was praying, heaven was opened.” Jesus understood that when heaven doesn’t open, the summary of a man’s activities is just ‘too’. There will be nothing that distinguishes a man from the rest of the people. It is the opening of heaven that confers the extraordinary dimension to the things that happens to you.
The night before our ordination, I told my wife that we could persuade the man of God in charge to postpone the ordination for us if I was just going to get ordained too. I didn’t just want to have collar and get anointed with oil without any difference in my life and ministry. I was desperately seeking God because I knew the ordination must not be ordinary.
As everyone in that scripture got baptized, they were dipped inside water, they came out and went home. But Jesus refused to just get baptized and go home just like the rest.
*And as He was praying…*
Do you know it wasn’t just that baptism that opened heaven to Jesus? If it was just the baptism, the heaven should have been opened for others too. The scripture says, _“And as he was praying, heaven was opened.”_ He didn’t depart from John after the baptism. Right inside the water, He prayed for an open heaven. If Jesus had to pray, at the critical point of baptism, before securing an open heaven, we can’t afford not to pray at the critical junctions of our lives.
Prayer was the password to Jesus’ open heaven. Prayer was what Elijah also used to open the heavens after three years of famine. It is the password if you will experience an open heaven.
Every stage, new season or achievement in your life should be used as an opportunity to secure an open heaven through prayer. You shouldn’t be casual about it. Jesus wasn’t. He maximized the season of His baptism. Why did you graduate and did not pray on your convocation day? As a new bride, as you walk out of the church covered with sprays on your wedding day, you ought to be praying. The celebration must not become ordinarily in your life. As you step into your first car and you ignite it, you should declare, ‘This is my first time, it is not going to be the last time!’. As you dedicate your new house, you ought to be praying. That is how to get heaven opened.
Your first flight experience shouldn't be a time to look out for what the waitresses would offer you, it is time to secure an open heaven. I met a sister who told me how she prayed as she flew in the air for the first time. She said “I am flying today; flying just started in my life and destiny. This will not be my last. I am flying, Lord don’t let me ever come down in life again”. As she was praying in the plane, they were looking at her. She began to prophesy upon her children, work and all things that concerns her.
Every opportunity to do a good thing for the first time should be maximized to secure a open heaven through prayer.
As a student, the day you write your last paper or your day of graduation shouldn't be taken casually. It shouldn't be a day of frivolities. It is a day to make sure the heavens are opened for the next phase of your life. It is a day to come against what makes an educated man to live no differently from an illiterate. It is a day to command the heavens to open. Without a need to tell people you are a graduate, the result should show.
When the doctor confirms your pregnancy, you command the heavens to open, “I’m stepping into motherhood, heaven open”. When you get promotion at work you command open heaven.
When you operate under an opened heaven, it affects every aspect of your life including the ability to stay away from sexual impurities. You don't fall in the face of sexual temptations. Your courtship will free from sexual immorality.
Heaven opened on Jesus with a physical proof. The Holy Spirit was embodied in a dove for one Person that day. When your heaven opens, there will be physical proofs of it. It will not just be a spiritual thing; it will be backed up with things that can be seen, touched and felt. I pray such unique blessing and glory will come for you. There shall be physical evidences that the Lord has rent the heavens over you. People will ask why your life is so good recently and you will answer them, ‘heaven has just been opened over me’. I ask for physical confirmations of your opened heaven.
The Holy Spirit will start working things through you so much that there will be tangible physical testimonies.
Missing critical appointments could be an indication of a closed heaven. Why is it that the person you came to meet always arrive after you have left? Go and pray! When your heaven opens, your steps are ordered by God to meet the person you need to meet at the time you are supposed to meet the person.
You can experience an opened heaven in the place of prayer. As you start singing, you are already launched into the presence of God while someone else fasts for fourteen days yet he hasn’t even opened the gate of heaven. You can experience an opened heaven in your study life such that as you open the Bible, you get revelations from God. This can become your daily experience. There is a Word for Monday, for Tuesday and every day of the week.
When heaven opens unto you, everyone will trace your location. When it’s not opened, you will be in a public place and no one will even notice you! When heaven opens over you, you perform your duties without stress and get results.
And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” Every voice that will be speaking on your behalf now will be speaking at your favor because your heavens are opened. God will silent every negative voice in the name of Jesus.
As soon as the heaven was opened over Jesus, the next we saw was that He began something.
_Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry._
When heavens open over you, then it is time to begin something. It is hard to begin a thing under a closed heaven and this is the year to begin something because God has opened the heavens over you. What will you kick start this year under this open heaven? What Jesus began after that open heaven has survived generations. We are still witnessing it till today. It’s not ordinary because He started under an opened heaven. It was a breakthrough that can neither be blocked nor obstructed. I pray what you are starting at this age under open heaven is blessed with trans-generational success and prosperity.
Isaiah 64:1 says the heavens can be rent. A rent heaven is a wider and explosive dimension of an opened heaven. What is opened can be closed but what is torn or rent becomes perpetually opened. And this is what God wants you to experience this year. He wants you to live perpetually under an opened heaven. When heaven is rent, it won't just be about you, it will concern your parents, siblings and friends. They will wonder what your secret is and you will answer them, "The heaven has just been rent over me”.
Even if you are not stepping into any new phase of your life presently, a new year is a new phase and you must not begin the year with a closed heaven.
I pray there shall be an open heaven for correct marital lives, for wonderful jobs, even your siblings will testify to open heavens this year in Jesus name. I pray heaven opens over the works of your life.
