Mr. Peter Mokwuah, a man who spent 25 years working hard in New York, built a mansion in his Anambra village with hopes of enjoying retirement in peace. But what did he get in return? Betrayal from those he called family.
Peter, who receives a $5,000 pension every month, reportedly suffered a stroke not long after returning home. And instead of caring for him, his own siblings locked him up in his house, neglected him, and used his money for their selfish plans.
His daughter, Ifunanya, who lives in the USA, became worried when she couldn’t reach him for months. Despite her uncle and aunt assuring her that “Daddy is fine,” something told her all was not well. She bravely travelled home in January 2025.
When she arrived, they tried to stop her at the gate. They insulted her, but with the help of good villagers, she entered the house. The uncle claimed Peter had travelled to Abuja — but she insisted on searching the house.
There, upstairs, she found her father lying helpless on a dirty mattress, looking like a shadow of himself. His nails and beard were overgrown, his body weak and neglected. The man who worked so hard abroad was left to suffer by those he trusted most. 😭
Peter’s joy at seeing his daughter can’t be described. Imagine how Ifunanya felt, seeing her father in that condition, after all the money she had been sending!
Thank God she acted on time. She took him to Lagos for treatment, and eventually back to the USA.

👉 Let this be a lesson: stop seeing your wife and children as outsiders, while trusting siblings blindly. At the end of the day, it was his girl child that came and saved him.
By the way, they had already started building a new house beside Peter’s mansion — it’s clear whose money they were using.
