Press Release:

I have been inundated with calls and messages from well-meaning friends, colleagues and ndi Anambra over a video clip that has gone viral on social media regarding an altercation between a GUO driver and myself, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority.

I wish to state clearly the facts as they are, as I owe this to the public we graciously serve. Certainly, I cannot take their sensibility for granted.

This afternoon, I had finished my exams from the Igbariam campus of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University and was on the way to my office in Awka, driving in the company of two civil defence officers seated in the back seat of my Toyota Hilux vehicle (there was no convoy). Suddenly, at Ukpo axis of the Enugu/Onitsha expressway, I sighted a white coloured GUO vehicle speedily approaching and trying to overtake me, given that the express road is still being used as a two-way drive, he could not meet up with his moves to overtake me and series of other vehicles in the line, as two heavy-duty trucks were approaching; he suddenly veered into my lane, it would have been a serious disaster and a lot of losses would have been counted if not for divine grace and my swift effort to steer my wheel rightly.

The said driver sped off without any sign of remorse, this infuriated me and the officers I had in my car. However, we continued with our journey, getting to Amawbia flyover we hoped to stop the driver at the police checkpoint there to ensure he was okay and know the reasons behind his reckless driving because I thought I owed that as a duty to other road users. Unfortunately in the same vein, he sped off. We knew we could still get him at their office in Awka because they have a park at UNIZIK junction. However, he stopped not at their park, but at the opposite Enugu Motor Park.

The two civil defence officers fully kitted in their uniforms, approached him and asked him to alight from his bus, he locked up himself and his passengers in the bus and even attempted to overrun the officers with his vehicle. At this point the atmosphere was very heated, I had to call the police and Community-based vigilante within the environment.

While this was going on the young man eventually came down and started insulting everyone including the officers with me.

When I sighted the vigilante group vehicle, I narrated what happened to them, and told them the police were also coming and that the man should be taken to the police station for proper check as I did not think he was in the right frame of mind to be driving. Then I drove off from the scene as they made moves to take him with them. At this time, about 100 youths that heard I was having altercations at UNIZIK junction had already assembled. I enjoined them to go about their duties and let the security operatives do their job.

A few minutes later in the office, the driver called me and apologised. By then about 5 other drivers/staff of GUO who are my friends were in my office to also apologise on his behalf. I immediately told them I needed no apologies and that if not for the actions of the young man, this matter wouldn't have escalated to the police station. I called the DPO and asked him to bail the young man if they were convinced that he was fit to drive. The DPO released him immediately.

I also learnt later on that the young man resisted arrest which led to a lot of violent conduct in his arrest, I take full responsibility for all that, and I also apologise to the young man, his company GUO, and my friends and well-wishers who have been embarrassed by my association with such act.

Thank you and may God bless us all.

πŸ–οΈ5 Important Harmattan Safety Tips

Here are the "5 Important harmattan safety tips" to follow:

1. Due to high dehydration rate which accompanies the harmattan period, much fluid is needed to replenish and maintain the body fluid balance. It is advised that we avoid carbonated drinks as it could enhance dehydration.

2. Get well covered to avoid developing cold related disease like pneumonia, bleeding nose, etc.

3. Stay indoors if necessary or/and shut doors to reduce the amount of dust you get exposed to. If you must work out in the dusty environment, make sure you use a dust mask.

4. Wash your eyes intermittently with water to clear it of settled dust on your eye-balls. Settled dust on your eye-balls can make your eye to be reddish.

5. For drivers, in a misty/foggy atmosphere, try to increase the visibility of your vehicle. If it’s a high-rising vehicle, your revolving light should be on, keep your fog light on when driving in a misty/foggy atmosphere.

Follow the harmattan safety tips and stay safe in this harmattan season.

Operation Clean And Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade Celebrates End-Of-The-Year Get-together

It was an amazing outing and the first of its kind as OCHA Brigade had an end-the-year get-together. The event came alive and went smoothly without hitches on Friday, 21st December, 2018 at the O'deal Garden in Ngozika Estate, Awka.

To the delight of all present, the event which started by 5 pm with an opening prayer and the recitation of the National and State anthem, was declared officially open by the MD/Supt. Gen. of the Brigade; Pat. C. Obiefuna fwoa MNIM (Chartered) who was accompanied by the Zonal Commanders.

The MD/Supt. Gen. welcomed everyone to the memorable event and hinted that he unrelluctantly bought the idea when it was projected by the Zonal Commanders. He went on to admonished the Officers to return all the adoration and thanksgiving to God because He (God) ensured that the Brigade had a successful operation year.

He reminded the Officers that even as they merry, they should not forget to continually remember and pray for the departed souls especially our own Late Offr. Ezenwugo Ifenyinwa and Late Mr. Sunday Ajayi who was the Anambra State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps and a friend of the Brigade until his death. A minute silence was observed for their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed.

The event provided moments of catching up with colleagues from other zones and unwinding. And as the event went on, the Abambra State Honourable Commissioner for Transportation; Hon. Uchenna Okafor, as well as SSAs and SAs to the willingly working Governor of Anambra State; His Excellency, Chief Willie M. Obiano (Akpokuedike Global), came by to identify and celebrate with Officers of the Brigade.

The highlight of the event came when the Officers were presented with their welfare package for the Yuletide from His Excellency, Chief (Dr.) Willie M. Obiano - Akpokuedike Global.

The Officers expressed unending excitement as they appreciated and prayed for God's blessings upon the Executive Governor of the State; the MD/Supt. Gen. and entire Management staff of the Brigade as well as Zonal Commanders of the respective Zones.

GOOD NIGHT MR. SUNDAY AJAYI.

The MD/Supt Gen. of the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade condoles with the Anambra State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on the sudden death of Mr. Sunday Ajayi - Corps Commander and erstwhile Sector Commander of the FRSC, Anambra State Command. Mr Ajayi died in a ghastly motor accident along Asaba-Benin highway on Saturday, 15 December 2018.

Mr. Pat. C. Obiefuna fwoa MNIM (Chartered); the Managing Director/Superintendent General of OCHA Brigade accompanied by some key officers of the Brigade, today, 18th December, 2018 paid a condolence visit to the Headquarters of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) located at Amawbia along the expressway where he was received by Deputy Corps Commandant Chukwuka Eya. The MD/Supt Gen. who said that him and his team was there to sympathize with the FRSC on behalf of officers and staff of the OCHA Brigade eulogized the late senior FRSC officer, lamenting that he would be greatly missed.

Late Mr. Sunday Ajayi was a diligent public Officer who dedicated his life to safety and saving lives.

The MD/SG further described Late Mr. Sunday Ajayi's transition as a colossal loss to all and he will be greatly missed for his uncommon stewardship, adding that even as we mourn his transition, we should be consoled because of his productive life of service to God and humanity. Late Mr Ajayi's presence was felt by virtually all road users (minor and major) alike in Anambra State.

While death may be an extremely uncomfortable topic, he continued, there is no way we can run away from it. Rather, all should strive to live well and be prepared at all times since no one knows when it would come.

May God grant the gallant soul of Corps Commander Sunday Ajayi eternal succour in his divine bosom. And, to his family, friends, relatives and colleagues, the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
The MD/Supt Gen later signed the condolence register before leaving the FRSC premises.

OCHA Brigade Receives Its Christmas And New Year Welfare Package From The Executive Governor Of Anambra State.

The care of human life and happiness (welfare), and not their destruction is the first and foremost objective of good governance - Thomas Jefferson

The Executive Governor of Anambra State; His Excellency, Chief (Dr) Willie M. Obiano (Akpokuedike Global) who strongly believes that the general well-being and welfare of every good labourer is his priority has once more demonstrated his will to fulfill the promise he made to those that contribute towards improving and maintaining the peace, cleanliness, orderliness and stability of the State.

The afternoon hours of Wednesday, the 5th day of December, 2018 presented some moments of appreciation, fulfilment and hope at the Headquarters of the OCHA Brigade as the Managing Director/Superintendent General of the Brigade; Mr. Pat. C. Obiefuna fwoa MNIM (Chartered) on behalf of the Executive Governor, presented the take home Christmas gift (25kg bag of rice) to about 300 personnel of the Brigade.

The MD/SG informed the Officers that the Governor is indeed pleased with the efforts which the Brigade has been putting in promoting stability in the State thus far, and this is a testament that he (the Executive Governor) certainly will not hold back when the time to compensate the efforts of his diligent aides arises. The MD/SG admonished the Officers to constantly pray for the Governor, his family, the people of Anambra and indeed Anambra State as well as improve on the current standard of operation with utmost sense of diligence, technicality, sincerity and efficiency hinting that "to whom much is given, much is undoubtedly expected."

The highly elated Officers who could not hide their joys, sent their hearty cheers to the Governor. Their joy was further broadened as alert for their November salaries started trickling in consecutively. Their expression of gratitude was seen while speaking to the Head of Operations; Offr. Chukwuemeka Oye (one of the beneficiaries) and other key Officers of the Brigade, who stated that for them, this is indeed a morale boasting gesture as they reiterated the fact that the Governor who keeps to his words, is currently running a progressive and all inclusive administration and that they will not relent in ensuring that they contribute their quota towards making the 'Light of the Nation' shine even brighter because with collective effort of all and sundry, Anambra will be better as the spirit of the State will be lifted with love.

The event which was declared open with a welcome address by the State Chairman; Mr. Ifeanyi Nwankwo C., saw the presentation of a 5-minutes parade session by thirty five (35) veterans which was an interesting sight to behold. The parade further confirmed the parlance "Old Soldier Never Die."

In his words while appreciating the award and recognition, the MD/Supt Gen of OCHA Brigade advised the veterans to desist from any form of unhealthy politicking. He encouraged them to be confident and happy that they served their nation. He further stated that the labours of our heroes passed should not be in vain, hence the fallen heroes should be remembered stressing that both retired and serving personnel have all contributed their individual and collective quota by making sacrifices that has kept our dear great nation, Nigeria as one.
