MORNING MARKET BRIEF FRIDAY, AUG 28 πŸ“Š
HE ALREADY TOLD US WHAT HE'S GOING TO SAY
Good morning, Trader. πŸ“»
Today at 13:00 WAT, Kevin Warsh gives his first Jackson Hole keynote as
Fed Chair. The market wants one thing from him: a straight answer on rates.
Here is the problem. He already said he isn't giving one.
After the July meeting he told reporters he wanted this speech to
"frame the big questions" and warned against getting "caught up in the
myopic," debating quarter-point moves instead of the structural forces
shaping the next decade.
Read that again. The market wants a quarter-point answer.
The Chair calls quarter-point debates the myopic part.
πŸ₯‡ XAU/USD $4,579.31
Range today: High $4,614.55 / Low $4,575.31
Fourth straight lower high: $4,697 β†’ $4,673 β†’ $4,643 β†’ $4,614.
Gold has given up $122 since Tuesday's peak.
Now look at the daily ranges this week: $79, then $51, then $48, now $39.
The box tightens every single session into this speech.
Strategy: $4,614 is the ceiling, $4,575 the floor the tightest box of
the week. Compression this severe into an unpredictable event does not
resolve gently.
πŸ›’οΈ CRUDE & πŸ“ˆ YIELDS
Brent $90.59 Β· WTI $83.10 Β· US 10Y 4.686%
Oil bounced 2.6% overnight. But check the Brent–WTI gap: $7.10 yesterday,
$7.49 today barely moved. Both grades rose together, so this is a broad
oil bid, NOT a return of Hormuz risk. The gap still tells you why.
πŸ’± FX MAJORS
EUR/USD 1.1645 Β· GBP/USD 1.3588 Β· USD/JPY 159.47 Β· DXY 99.17
Yields up, dollar firm, gold down four days running.
The market is walking into this speech already positioned hawkish.
πŸ“Œ TIP FOR TODAY:
That last line is the whole risk. When a market leans one way before an
event, the danger is not the expected outcome it is the unexpected one,
because everyone is standing on the same side of the boat. Nobody has ever
traded this speaker before. Size smaller than usual, not bigger.

MORNING MARKET BRIEF THURSDAY, AUG 27 πŸ“Š
INFLATION DECLINED. BARELY. NOW WARSH HAS TO EXPLAIN IT.
Good morning, Nigeria. πŸ“»
We showed you the Fed's condition: tightening becomes necessary
"if inflation did not decline."
Yesterday the answer came back β€” and it satisfied nobody.
πŸ“Š PCE JULY 2026
Core: 3.3% y/y β€” in line with forecast
Headline: 3.7% y/y β€” a tenth ABOVE forecast
Core peaked at 3.4% in May. So yes, inflation declined.
By one tenth. In two months. With the target still at 2%.
Not a win for the doves. Not a trigger for the hawks. An argument that
stays open and CME pricing now shows roughly 45% odds of a rate HIKE
in December. Not a cut. A hike.
πŸ”οΈ JACKSON HOLE OPENS TODAY
Kevin Warsh gives his first keynote as Fed Chair TOMORROW.
πŸ₯‡ XAU/USD $4,603.87
Range today: High $4,643.27 / Low $4,594.91
Third straight lower high: $4,697 Tuesday, $4,673 Wednesday, $4,643 today.
And gold just broke under $4,600 for the first time this week over $100
off Tuesday's peak.
Strategy: $4,643 is a ceiling the sellers move down every session.
$4,594 is the new floor. Until buyers reclaim $4,643, pressure stays down.
πŸ›’οΈ CRUDE & πŸ“ˆ YIELDS
Brent $88.28 Β· WTI $81.18 Β· US 10Y 4.649%
The Brent–WTI gap has stopped shrinking: $8.78 Monday, $8.10 Tuesday,
$7.11 Wednesday, $7.10 today. That shipping premium is finished repricing.
The Iran trade is over. The rates trade has taken over.
πŸ’± FX MAJORS
EUR/USD 1.1653 Β· GBP/USD 1.3588 Β· USD/JPY 159.35 Β· DXY 99.15
The Dollar has climbed off its three-month low near 98.80. Every major is
giving ground and that is what is pressing gold.
πŸ“Œ TIP FOR TODAY:
An ambiguous number does not end volatility. It postpones it. The market
did not get its answer yesterday, so it will go hunting for one in
tomorrow's speech. Expect positioning today, not resolution.

πŸ“Š 【Tim Waterer: Market Cues Coming Thick and Fast This Weekγ€‘πŸ“ˆ
Three major market catalysts are in focus this week β€” US Core PCE, Nvidia’s earnings and the Jackson Hole symposium β€” with each having the potential to influence market sentiment heading into September.
🟑 Gold continues to benefit from a softer US Dollar, while oil prices have eased as markets assess the latest developments involving Iran.
πŸ€– Nvidia’s earnings will be an important test for the AI trade, with traders watching chip demand, margins and capital spending closely.
🏦 Jackson Hole will be closely watched for clues on the Fed’s policy outlook, particularly as markets weigh persistent inflation risks against expectations for future rate moves.

πŸ“Š Today’s media highlights | KCM Trade Chief Market Analyst Tim Waterer:

πŸ“š Reuters - Interview
Oil prices fell more than 3% as markets viewed the latest U.S. sanctions on Iran as less threatening to oil supplies than military escalation. However, risks remain, with potential disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz keeping a residual premium in oil prices.

πŸ›’οΈ Oil Plunges! Iran–Oman Resume Hormuz Talks
Markets eased supply concerns after signs emerged of a possible reopening of shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz.
πŸ“‰ Latest Oil Prices
β€’ WTI $81.01/barrel (-1.7%)
β€’ Brent fell 5.6% on Tuesday
β€’ WTI dropped more than 3% in the previous session
🌊 Hormuz Developments Pressure Oil Prices
Iran has resumed talks with Oman over maritime traffic management, including discussions on a β€œjoint temporary shipping corridor” through the Strait of Hormuz.
πŸ“‰ The negotiations prompted investors to price in lower supply risk, putting heavy pressure on oil prices.
⚠️ But Risks Have Not Disappeared
Shipping traffic through Hormuz remains only a fraction of pre-war levels, while the strait has historically carried around 20% of the world’s oil supply.
πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ U.S. Continues Pressure on Iran
The talks came just one day after the U.S. announced a new round of economic sanctions, highlighting an approach focused more on economic pressure than military action.
🎯 Market Insight
βœ… Hormuz negotiations are weighing on oil prices
βœ… Markets are pricing in lower supply risk
βœ… Shipping activity remains far below normal levels
⚑ Markets are closely watching progress in Iran–Oman talks and the U.S. response

MORNING MARKET BRIEF WEDNESDAY, AUG 26 πŸ“Š
OIL DID WRITE TODAY'S INFLATION PRINT JUST NOT THE WAY ANYONE EXPECTED
Good morning, Trader. πŸ“»
On Monday we told you oil was writing today's PCE print.
It did. It just wrote the opposite line.
Brent has collapsed to $87.71. WTI to $80.29 more than $5.50 below
Monday's close.
Why? The "economic D-Day" landed far softer than the speech. Washington
stopped short of secondary sanctions on Iran's trading partners β€” the one
measure that would genuinely have squeezed supply. Then came diplomacy:
Pakistan's army chief visited Tehran, reportedly carrying a proposal
involving sanctions relief.
Maximal rhetoric. Measured policy. The market priced the policy.
Why that matters at 13:30 WAT today πŸ‘‡
Cheaper oil is DISINFLATIONARY. The Fed's July minutes said tightening
becomes necessary "if inflation did not decline." A $5 drop in crude
pushes the other way.
πŸ“Š PCE TODAY 13:30 WAT
Core forecast: 3.20% y/y Β· Headline: 3.60% y/y
Core peaked at 3.4% in May. The Fed targets 2%.
πŸ₯‡ XAU/USD $4,641.48
Range today: High $4,673.65 / Low $4,629.94 a $44 box, half the size of
yesterday's $79 swing.
Now notice what gold is NOT doing: it is not collapsing with oil.
Yesterday's high was $4,697. Today's is $4,673 a lower high, so sellers
are arriving earlier. But the floor holds, because yields at 4.639% make
gold cheaper to carry.
Strategy: $4,673 is the ceiling, $4,629 is the floor. Volatility is
compressing into 13:30 and compression like this usually resolves hard.
πŸ›’οΈ CRUDE & πŸ“ˆ YIELDS
Brent $87.71 Β· WTI $80.29 Β· US 10Y 4.639% (βˆ’7.6bps)
πŸ’± FX MAJORS
EUR/USD 1.1664 Β· GBP/USD 1.3635 Β· USD/JPY 158.97 Β· DXY 98.97
πŸ“Œ TIP FOR TODAY:
Monday's lesson, repeated. The speech said "greatest financial offensive
ever." The document stopped short. The traders sitting comfortable this
morning are the ones who waited for the document.

πŸ›’οΈ Oil Rebounds! Markets Watch New Iran Sanctions
Supply risks continue to support oil prices, even as shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz begins to recover.
πŸ“ˆ Latest Prices
β€’ Brent $92.31/barrel (+0.15%)
β€’ WTI $85.28/barrel (+0.3%)
β€’ Oil prices remain more than 5% higher than last week
πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ U.S. Steps Up Pressure on Iran
The U.S. announced sanctions on 60 entities and individuals linked to Iran and warned countries to exercise caution when doing business with Tehran.
⚠️ Iran Signals Possible Retaliation
Iran has indicated it may respond by further disrupting oil flows in the Middle East, keeping supply risks firmly in focus.
🌊 Hormuz Remains a Key Factor
Although shipping activity is improving, it remains well below pre-war levels. The Strait of Hormuz has historically carried around 20% of global oil shipments.
🎯 Market Insight
βœ… New sanctions increase pressure on Iran
βœ… Retaliation risks continue to support oil prices
βœ… Hormuz remains a major factor for supply risk
⚑ Markets are closely watching U.S.–Iran developments and shipping activity through Hormuz
