According to the World Bank, there are 39 million Africans in North America, 113 million in Latin America, 13.6 million in the Caribbean, and 3.5 million in Europe. They are well-educated professionals and together they send over 40 billion US dollars in remittances to Africa every year.
In a similar report but narrowed down to Nigeria, In 2018, remittances of Nigerians living abroad amounted to about β¬20 billion, according to figures released by the Central Bank of Nigeria in March. Most of the funds are sent to friends and relatives for various purposes, with real estate, food, education, and health care accounting for the lionβs share.
But the ugly scenario in the attached image plays out most of the time resulting in heartbreak and anguish for the Diasporans.
