Why Creative People Need Time to "Sit Around Doing Nothing"

The stereotype of the creative mind is often one of constant activity – a flurry of brainstorming sessions, paint-splattered studios, and late nights fueled by inspiration. However, there's a crucial element often overlooked: the power of unstructured downtime.

Here's why seemingly "doing nothing" is essential for creative people:

Sparking New Ideas: The constant barrage of information and stimulation can overwhelm creativity. Unstructured time allows the mind to wander, fostering subconscious connections and unexpected ideas. This "incubation period" can lead to breakthroughs that wouldn't have emerged under pressure.

Sharpening Focus: Our brains crave downtime to recharge. Constant activity leads to mental fatigue, hindering the ability to concentrate and think deeply. Time away from focused tasks allows the mind to reset, returning to creative endeavors with renewed clarity and focus.

Boosting Problem-Solving: Stepping away from a challenge can offer a fresh perspective. Unstructured time allows the subconscious to continue working on a problem, sometimes leading to creative solutions that might not have been apparent during a focused brainstorming session.

Enhancing Emotional Well-being: Creativity often thrives on a foundation of emotional well-being. Time for relaxation and rejuvenation allows creative individuals to manage stress and anxiety, which can stifle creativity.

This "doing nothing" isn't about complete inactivity. It might involve taking long walks, listening to music, engaging in hobbies, or simply daydreaming. The key is to allow the mind to operate outside of the pressures of deadlines and specific goals.

By embracing unstructured downtime, creative people can:

Unlock their full potential: Unstructured time fosters a fertile environment for new ideas to blossom.

Improve the quality of their work: A refreshed mind is better equipped to tackle creative challenges.

Maintain a healthy creative life: Downtime prevents burnout and allows individuals to approach creative endeavors with renewed passion.

So, the next time you see a creative person seemingly "doing nothing," remember – it might be the most productive part of their day!

PASSION OR MONEY?

Let me start by explaining this.

Soludo's son is into music, dressing like one rascal of a guy - that is what gives him joy and that is fine.

Otedola daughter is a DJ - that is where she finds happiness. Will she ever make enough money to become a billionaire from such a venture? It is immaterial, the father already did all taht. In fact, the father just bought her a $5m house as a gift for her 30th birthday.

I heard that Deborah Eneche is going about (wearing her long boots) as one Gospel artist - I don't know if she is really as good as Sinach or she is just catching cruise there. Whichever, it doesn't matter much.

Leo Stan Ekeh son choose to be an entrepreneur like his father (he founded Yudala at age 23). But it is the 400m naira a month by his father that is sustaining the business and not his entrepreneurial ingenuity.

Now, what is common among all the names I mentioned above?

Their fathers have all paid the price for them.

And when your father has made all the money there is to make in this world you can comfortably chase after your passion - who cares if it makes sense or not.

But you see some of us that nobody know our father, we must be intentional about making money.

Forget passion for now. 'Chase' after opportunities with all the energy of your youth. And where there is opportunity there is money. If you see opportunity where they are packing refuse go there. If it is legitimate, and has the potential for giving you money try to bridle that passion of yours for now.

When you make enough money you can now use it to fund your passion. Passion without money will lead you to frustration.

Some of us went to the University to study medicine or engineering not because we like it so much but because we believe it is a more likely path to wealth.

Some of us are doing this entrepreneurship of a thing today not because we are enjoying it so much but because we want to make money.

Now, the challenge before you is this, if you can't go after your passion because your father did not pay the price, will you pay the price for you own children?

Someone said that if you were not born into wealth then wealth must be born out of you.

Your children should have better options than you because you paved the way.
