The longer I work in the financial planning industry, the more I believe one thing should always come first: The person, not the product.
Financial planning shouldn’t start with a policy, investment or retirement product. It should start with a conversation...
Because behind every financial plan is a real person with a family, responsibilities, goals, dreams and worries. There are plans for the future, decisions made in the past, unexpected expenses and sometimes financial concerns that are difficult to even put into words
That’s why good financial advice starts with understanding YOU.
What matters most to you?
What are you working towards?
What could put those plans at risk?
And what needs to be in place to help you get where you want to go?
Only once we understand the bigger picture should we look at the financial solutions that could help.
Products will change. Markets will change. Tax rules will change. But the process shouldn’t… Understand the person -> identify the need -> build the plan -> choose the right solution.
There’s a big difference between simply selling financial products and actually doing financial planning and I know which side of that difference I want my clients to experience 🫶
