BERNAS STAFF STEPPING UP AGAINST PEST THREATS – A POWERFUL TRAINING BY OCHRE PEST CONTROL.

When it comes to protecting Malaysia’s rice supply, there’s no room for compromise. On 1–2 July 2025, Ochre Pest Control Sdn Bhd, led by our entomologist Rizal Dawami, conducted an intensive Pengendalian Kawalan Makhluk Perosak training for the dedicated staff of BERNAS (Beras Nasional Berhad).

This was no ordinary course. Over two full days, participants were immersed in the science, law, and practical strategies of pest management a subject critical to safeguarding one of Malaysia’s most important food resources.

Inside the Training
The course was structured around 20 major topics (as highlighted in the attached modules), spanning six comprehensive sections:

Akta & Perundangan Subsidiari – Understanding the laws that govern pesticide use.

Racun Makhluk Perosak – Deep dive into types and functions of pest control chemicals.

Keselamatan & Penilaian Risiko – Ensuring safe handling and assessing risks in pest management.

Aplikasi Racun Makhluk Perosak – Correct methods and techniques of application.

Pengurusan Sisa Racun – Proper waste management of pesticide residues.

Pengurusan Makhluk Perosak – Holistic strategies for long-term pest control.

Every topic was tailored to real-life applications faced by pest control operators in the field.

Objectives Achieved
By the end of the session, participants were able to:

i. Identify and apply relevant laws & regulations.

ii. Select the right pesticide for specific pests.

iii. Use chemicals safely and effectively.

iv. Maintain and calibrate pest control equipment.

v. Manage pesticide waste responsibly.

vi. Understand the biology of pests, the damage they cause, and effective control methods.

Why This Training Matters
BERNAS plays a vital role in Malaysia’s food security. Pests not only threaten crop yield but also food storage and distribution. This training was part of our ongoing mission to:

i. Enhance staff competency in handling pest threats.
ii. Empower employees with the latest knowledge and best practices.
iii. Strengthen Malaysia’s food security through professional pest management.

Participants & Impact
The two day course brought together BERNAS staff from across divisions, uniting them under a shared goal to sharpen their skills in pest management and ensure every grain of rice remains protected.

The atmosphere was electric from interactive lectures, case studies, to hands-on learning sessions, participants engaged passionately, recognizing the critical role they play in the nation’s rice supply chain.

Shout out on our Malaysia's Ministry of Health (MOH) program of releasing Aedes mosquitoes with Wolbachia in fighting the vector borne disease i.e. Dengue fever cases that had been reduced 💯%

Program Pelepasan Nyamuk Aedes BerWolbachia (WMO) yang dilaksanakan Kementerian Kesihatan (KKM) menunjukkan hasil memberangsangkan dalam usaha membendung penularan kes denggi di negara ini, dengan data awal menunjukkan penurunan kes hingga 100 peratus di beberapa lokaliti terlibat.

Timbalan Menteri Kesihatan Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni berkata berdasarkan penilaian setelah enam tahun pelaksanaannya, sebanyak 20 daripada 45 lokaliti pelepasan atau 44.4 peratus yang telah tamat tempoh pelepasan nyamuk aedes WMO selama dua tahun, menunjukkan pengurangan kes antara 45 hingga 100 peratus.

Ochre Pest Control and UiTM Launch PPRN Project on Eco-Friendly Mosquito Fogging Formulation

Ochre Pest Control Sdn. Bhd. is proud to announce a groundbreaking collaboration with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) under the Public-Private Research Network (PPRN) program. The joint research project, titled “Development of Standardized Natural Product-Based Mosquito Fogging Formulations for Sustainable Pest Control”, is set to run for 12 months with a total project cost of RM82,820.00.

This initiative aims to address one of Malaysia’s most pressing public health concerns mosquito-borne diseases by developing an innovative, natural product-based fogging formulation. Unlike conventional chemical fogging, this eco-friendly approach will prioritise safety, sustainability, and environmental responsibility while maintaining high efficacy against mosquito vectors such as Aedes aegypti, the carrier of dengue fever.

Driving Innovation for Safer Communities

The project represents a strong step forward in Malaysia’s journey toward green pest control solutions, combining UiTM’s academic and scientific expertise with Ochre’s industry experience and operational insight. The partnership will focus on:

> Identifying and standardising locally sourced natural active ingredients
> Developing biodegradable formulations suitable for fogging applications
> Testing effectiveness through laboratory and field trials
> Ensuring compliance with safety, health, and regulatory standards

Strengthening Public-Private Collaboration

Through the PPRN framework, Ochre Pest Control is reinforcing its commitment to R&D, sustainability, and ESG values. The collaboration also highlights the importance of bridging academia and industry to create impactful, real-world solutions that protect communities.
