Some processes are harder to automate than others, and resistance welding is a tougher one. The equipment's electromagnetic pulse is strong enough to blank out a robot's servo motors.

Metal fabricator T&W Stamping needed to automate tending on their resistive welders anyway. Rather than build eight separate fixtures to present the part to the welder, they put a UR5 cobot on it.

Result: the whole cell cost 30% less than the fixture-heavy alternative, freed up three operator roles for higher-value work, and paid for itself in under four months.

As product mix grew, key steps were still manual: handling, capping, part of the filling process – and that started working against them.

Variability in output. Pressure on hygiene control. Difficulty keeping people on for repetitive tasks.

Working with UR Certified Solutions Partner for pharma automation Technicon A/S, GMPack rebuilt the line around three modular filling units, each running two cobots.

One robot picks and positions containers, while the other applies caps and checks placement. An integrated printer handles batch traceability as products move through.

The result: fewer hygiene and quality inconsistencies, more capacity, same headcount.
